The Picture, Mount Shasta and Mother May Mae Maier
Emilie A. Frank, the author of ‘Mt. Shasta : California’s Mystic Mountain’ clarified in the book that Mt. Shasta refers to the mountain itself, while Mount Shasta refers to the small village-cum-city which lies on the mountain’s lower southern slopes.
Mother Mary Mae Maier, the proprietor of "The Inn" at Mount Shasta in the miniature downtown location, resided in the Inn for a considerable period of time and eventually breathed her last here. She was popularly known as ‘The Angel of the West and the Guardian of the Mountain’ because of her love and fascination for the mystic Mt. Shasta and the services provided by her to the travelers of the mountain, her knowledge about and closeness with Mt. Shasta.
Mother Mary Mae Maier, had a big oil painting of Prabhu Jagadbandhu and another painting of SriPad Mahendraji hung up on the wall of her personal room in ‘The Inn’. And from this Inn, the above picture of Jagadbandhu originated for distribution to whoever is interested by the personal effort and service of the Mother Mary.
