Part 3

Her mouth fell open in disbelief, and of course, the young reflection's did too. She looked
down at her body, as though to belie the impossible reflection, but instead confirmed the
smaller, higher breasts, flat tummy and thinner thighs she had seen in the mirror. She
reached out, hand trembling, and touched the small, pink nipple, receiving an answering
jolt. It was her body, all right, at least the one she had in high school.

She leaned closer to the mirror and studied her face. Smaller nose, rounder cheeks,
redder hair, and, yes, her freckles were coming back. She even noticed a zit on her chin
and felt strangely panicked. Geez, it was huge! What would Bob think of her?

The question snapped her back to the more pressing problem. What the hell was going
on? She already knew the answer, of course, but simply found it hard to accept. Lisa had
obviously bespelled her, but why hadn't she let on? After the first shrinking episode, they
had become much closer again, and were pretty much open and above board with their
intentions. She hadn't expected a surprise like this.

Well, at least this time she knew what to do. She stormed back out into the bedroom
towards the phone. Bob was awake now, and his eyes widened comically in disbelief.

"K...Karen?" His mouth then hung open as the teenager approached.

She stopped, suddenly embarrassed beyond words by her nakedness. She spun and
almost ran back into the bathroom, grabbing her robe and tying it securely before
returning. She almost ran into her astounded husband as he had hurried to follow her. He
hadn't dressed, and she blushed again noticing the remnants of his morning erection. She
almost averted her eyes, but instead they drifted back, and she felt an uncanny feeling,
almost curiosity, about looking at his cock. Then her emotions swirled, stirred by the
awkward bashfulness she was feeling, and anger resurfaced.

"What happened?" he asked, beginning to wonder if he'd ever wake up again to a normal
Karen on a Saturday morning.

"Guess," she shot back impatiently, embarrassment fueling her anger, and flushing as she
drew the robe tighter. She returned to the phone and sat on the bed.

"Well, Lisa again, obviously," he answered, stung. "But why?" He misinterpreted her
glare. "No, no - I mean, it's great." She glared more icily. "I mean, um, it's just...why
didn't you tell me?"

"Because I didn't know," she said, irritated and tilting her head back and forth to
emphasize each word in an insulting manner. Geez, why was he being so dense, she
wondered. She also looked him over more critically as she waited to see if he had any
more stupid questions. His unshaved whiskers and less than toned physique made him
look so much older, she decided. He needed to work out more regularly and take better
care of himself.

While still thinking, she jumped as the phone rang in her lap.

"Hello?"

"Karen? Thank God. Are you OK?" Lisa's voice sounded stressed and concerned,
possibly accounting for it also being a half octave higher.

"No, I'm not OK," Karen mocked, pleased to find another target for her anger. "As you
well know, I'm like ready to go back to high school this morning, and I'm feeling just oh
so peachy keen about it. Care to let me in on the rest of the plan, or are you going to wait
'til I'm in diapers?" Karen suddenly realized with surprise how sarcastic and angry she
was being to everyone. Her emotions felt out of control and overwhelming - almost like a
real teenager she realized.

"S...sorry, Lisa," she added, trying to control herself - after all, she was a mature woman,
not some flighty high school girl. "I'm, like, a little unsettled and surprised, that's all."

"Karen..."

Karen interrupted her in a lower voice. "I mean, I agreed we could have some fun with
the medallion, but I didn't expect, you know, a surprise spell like this. I wish you'd told
me."

"Karen," Lisa began again more insistently. "Listen to me. I didn't cast a spell." Karen's
blood froze. "And it happened to me, too. I'm a teenager again."

Karen was speechless for several seconds.

"Wha...what do you mean," she finally sputtered. "It has to be the medallion."

"I know. But I didn't use it on us, at least deliberately. It must have happened when we
got that shock. Something went wrong. And Karen," something in her voice readied
Karen for another shock, "it gets worse. I tried to use the medallion to, like, make myself
normal, and it's not working, no change, nothing."

Karen swallowed, but her mouth stayed dry.

"And..." Lisa's voice trembled. "We're still getting younger. I've been up over an hour
working on the problem, and can already see changes in my face and," she paused, "you
know, um...body."

"When's it gonna stop?" Karen managed in a weak voice, almost imagining she could
feel herself getting smaller as they spoke.

"I don't know."

Karen fought to control the surge of panic that answer elicited, as well as her other
churning emotions. After all, after a couple of shrinking sessions, you start to get used to
life's "little" surprises.

"What do we do?"

Lisa responded with obvious relief at the relative calm returning to Karen's voice. "I've
been trying to reach Gregor. He knows loads more than I do, especially about the time
medallion and stuff, like unconscious magic."

"And?"

"He's not in."

"Not in? Can't you just ,you know, like, summon him or something?"

"Karen," Lisa's voice betrayed her exasperation. "This is real life, not 'Bewitched,' OK?
We use telephones."

Karen's mood swung again.

"Well, excuse me Miss 'Maybe I Shouldn't be Playing Around with Magic I Can't
Control.' I guess I'm just a stupid mortal - duh, duh, duh. But then again I'M not the one
who turned us into kids and now doesn't know anything, am I?"

"Karen, I didn't mean...I...I'm sorry," Lisa tried to apologize, sounding close to tears.

"And what do you mean 'unconscious magic?'" Karen continued heatedly.

"Um...sometimes the medallion can pick up...subconscious thoughts...and...um...maybe I
was thinking..."

"Did you do this or not?" Karen yelled.

"I...I....guess...maybe.....I don't know," she wailed, the tears finally released.

Karen shook her head clearingly at hearing her friend sob. She'd lost it again, and
memories of her parents' nickname for her in high school, "Karen Kaboom," resurfaced.
She was NOT that high school girl, she told herself, and had to control her anger.
Besides, she had agreed to play with Lisa's magic both willingly and eagerly.

"Sorry, Lisa. I'm still, you know, having trouble with my control here. It's like I'm really
a teenager again."

Lisa sniffed. "Me too. I'm afraid we've regressed more than physically."

"Duh," Karen thought, but this time kept quiet.

"I'll call as soon as I get word." Lisa continued, then tried to soothe her friend further.
"Don't worry. I can always call the other council members if I can't reach Gregor. They'd
be able to help us."

"Call now," Karen suggested hopefully.

"Well," Lisa began reluctantly, "Gregor and I could get in trouble if they think we were
using, you know, stuff dangerously, me still learning and all. I'd rather save that for a real
emergency...which it will be if I can't find him."

"Emergency?" She was almost afraid to ask.

"Think about it. We've lost a little over ten years in half a day. Where does that leave us
tomorrow?"

"Yipe," Karen squeaked.

"Yeah. Talk to you soon. Bye."

Karen hung up the phone and sat staring into space, feeling every bit the scared and
confused sixteen year old that she looked.
