How Big Am I?

How Big Is My Graphic?
Determining File Size In PSP5
Part I

Determining the actual file size of your graphic in PSP5 can be somewhat confusing until you know where to look. (Note: Your image must be saved before you can figure out the file size.) The most obvious places we find information about our image can be deceiving. Let's have a look at these first so we can understand what this readily available information means to us.

The first place you see image information is in the lower right hand corner of your workspace. When you move your cursor over the image, PSP displays the Width, Height, the Number of Colors in your image and a measurement of KBytes.

Right Hand Corner

As you can see, it appears that this image is 27.2 KBytes in size. But is this really the file size of my image?

The second place to look for image information is up in your Toolbar under View | Image Information.

View | Image Information

This brings up the Current Image Information box which has some very useful information about your image.

Current Image Information

When we look at the Current Image Information box, a quick glance would lead us to believe that the image is 27K also. This is a good time to note that the KByte information in the bottom right hand corner of the workspace is approximately the same measurement we have found here in the Current Image Information box.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....

If you look closer at the Image Information box, it says that my computer system is using 27K of RAM to display my image in PSP.

We have now determined that the information provided in the lower right hand corner of your workspace and in the Image Information box is actually the amount of system resources required to display your image and not the file size of your image.

Now we are back to the question how big is this image really and where can I find the file size??
