Coffman -
Baseball 05
2005 was a year that was full of baseball, complete with ups and downs
and several firsts! In the Spring Tom played on the Major Mets
(11 and 12 year olds). This would be his last season on the
"small field". Below are a couple of pictures showing Tom at bat
during
one of the games. During the summer we made it to several games,
including 3 Somerset Patriot games (a local minor league team),
and we headed into NYC/Yankee Stadium twice to watch a couple of Yankee
games.

We did make it to the last regular season game in Yankee Stadium, and
saw what may very well have been Bernie Williams' last regular season
game
in Yankee Stadium. Below is a shot of Bernie at bat during that
game. In addition, Kerry had a chance to make it to Yankee game
against Baltimore in Camden Yards. He had to travel
Columbia, Md on business (which was only about 20 minutes away from
Camden
Yards). It was the final regular season series for the
Yankees. It was a last minute decision to stop off and watch the
game instead
of driving directly back to New Jersey. Fortunately, Kerry had
his glove in the car (Tom had had a Fall ball game the night before),
and FINALLY after 40 years of trying he caught a major league
ball he succeeded !!! It was during batting practice, and Jorge
Posada hit a line
drive home run to dead center field and lo and behold Kerry caught
it. I've included a picture of the famous baseball!!
In addition, Kerry
was able to get a great seat: it was only a couple of rows up on
the third base side!!

During the summer of '05 the famous Hot Dog Softball team once again
had a good season. One of the real highlights was that
Tom played with us for the last 4-5 games. Below is a shot of the
team, along with Tom trying to get use to hitting a softball - in
contrast
a baseball!!

During the Fall, Tom moved up to the Junior League, which is played on
the "big field": 90 feet between bases and the pitching mound 60
feet away. It was a GREAT team, and for the first time in Tom's
career his team won the Championship!!! Below is a shot of the
team after they
won the Championship game!!! Congratulations!!
