American Society for
Public Administration
The American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), established in 1939,
is the largest
and most prominent professional association in the field of public
administration. ASPA
is a nationwide nonprofit educational and professional organization
dedicated to improved management in the public service through exchange,
development and dissemination of information about public administration.
With a diverse membership composed of more
than 12,000 government administrators and professionals, teachers,
researchers, consultants, students and civil leaders, ASPA is the umbrella
organization for specialty oriented associations, providing a complementing
force for the entire field of public administration.
ASPA publishes the Public Administration Review, the preeminent scholarly
journal in the field, the PA Times, the monthly newspaper covering issues
affecting public administrators at all levels of government, and various
books on special topics such as the glass ceiling. ASPA activities
include national and regional conferences, educational programs, research,
and special services aimed at improved understanding and strengthened administration
of the public service. Many of these activities are carried
out through its 125 chapters and functional sections.
