FILE:QUALIFY wp 1999 QUALIFYING FOR TEAM NEW JERSEY
USAW/NJ State Championships, State Team Trials, and, State Ranking tournaments are for "IN STATE RESIDENTS." Out of state residents who attend school in New Jersey and wish to wrestle for "Team New Jersey" must contact the New Jersey State Chairman 2 weeks prior to these STATE event to complete the waiver process.
I. SCHOOLBOY TEAM NEW JERSEY
A. TRIPS: *Maryland Mason Dixon Scholastic Quad - - Mid January; *Kids scholastic National Championship in Kansas - 1st week of April, *Brockport Schoolboy Festival - Mid April; *NorthEast Regions in Syracuse - Mid May, * Indiana Team Duals -1st week June; *NJ Duals in Hightstown - Mid June; * several Maryland USAW tournaments in May and June, *North Carolina Duals - 4th July; * Great Adventure Scholastic Duals - Mid October;
B. Qualifying for the schoolboy freestyle and Greco team will be the highest place finishers at the Kids Ranking Tournament at Peddie and the Kids/Cadet States at Rahway and those who express an interest to go. Others will be selected based upon petition, interest level, and the needs of the team.
C. For the Brockport and Maryland USAW events, many schoolboy wrestlers may be a part of the traveling team.
II. KIDS/CADETS
TO: NE REGIONS IN Syracuse, NY (fs+gr)
1.The first place Cadet finisher from Peddie freestyle ranking tournament. This tournament is primarily to identify those Elite Cadets who want to plan their spring development to target for the Cadet Nationals. (scratch weight)
2. The top 5 Cadet place finishers from the freestyle states at Rahway and the top 6 from the Greco States at Hillsboro. (scratch weight)
3. The top 6 place finishers at the Kids States at Rahway (other than Cadets).
4. There will be a "cut-off" date for the top 6 to complete their application for the NE Region. Other wrestlers will be selected from those who have requested in writing after the determined cut-off date.
FREESTYLE: CADET TEAM NEW JERSEY: (cadet nationals, cadet duals in Michigan, and, New Jersey, and, North Carolina)
1. The top place finisher at the Freestyle Ranking tournament at Peddie who makes the "Elite Team Commitment" (scratch weight for cadets)
(A) Wrestler must pay the estimated flight cost for the Cadet National team trip ($375 non-refundable)
(B) Wrestler must commit to developmental trips and/or appropriate trainging and pay the minimal costs. A portion of the costs will be paid by NJW.
2. The number 1 and number 2 place finisher at the Kids/Cadets Freestyle States at Rahway.(scratch weight for all)
3. The final places via a competition at Hillsboro along with petitions.
4. Qualifies via a petition through the committee of the kids director and team leader.
5. Others needed will be invited by the committee of the kids director and the national team leader.,
GRECO-ROMAN: (Cadet nationals)
1. The top place finisher at the Greco-Roman states at Hillsboro. (Scratch weight)
2. Qualifies via a petition through the committee of the kids director and the team leader.
3. Others needed will be invited by the committee of the kids director and the national team leader.
C. GENERAL: IF THERE IS ANY CHANGE IN WEIGHT CLASS FROM QUALIFIER TO THE NATIONAL TEAM, THE WRESTLER SHOULD REQUALIFY AT THE NEW WEIGHT CLASS. IE AT Rahway, Hillsboro, OR BY PETITION.
III. JUNIORS
JUNIOR TEAM NEW JERSEY: (junior nationals (fs+Gr), Maryland junior East Coast Duals(fs), Michigan duals(fs), Oklahoma junior duals(fs))
FREESTYLE
1. A finalist at any one of the 7 Junior Regions will qualify and not count against New Jersey's total # of 36 spots. These qualifiers must complete NJ requirements.
2. The top place finisher at the Freestyle States at Scotch Plains who makes the "Elite Team Commitment" (3 pound allowance for Juniors) 1-6 in weight class - one will automatically qualify; up to 12 in a weight class - two will automatically qualify; 13 or above in a weight class will automatically qualify 3. 4th-6th may place in the tournament but do not automatically move up if #1 does not go.
3. Petition waivers will be considered due to unusual circumstances and must be submitted on the proper form by the day of the Junior freestyle states. (3 pound allowance for Juniors)
GRECO-ROMAN
1. A finalist at any one of the 7 Junior Regions will qualify and not count against New Jersey's total # of spots. Qualifiers must complete NJ requirements.
2. The top place finisher (and the next one or two depending on the size of the weight class from the Greco-Roman Team Trials on Sunday May 16 at Hillsborough. (3 pound allowance for Juniors)
3. Petition waivers will be considered due to unusual circumstances and must be submitted on the proper form by the day of the Junior freestyle states. (3 pound allowance for Juniors in Greco)
Cadet and Junior National Waiver Petitions: For Cadet and Junior Nationals. The appropriate committee will meet for each to: evaluate the petitions, rank those wrestlers that have not automatically qualified, select the wrestlers for the remaining spots, and develop an alternate list in priority order.
