wonderful sharing...
beautiful counterpoint to the negative connotation...
great thinking... great support for everyone here...
I applaud you...
and I remember those little hairy guys too... I had a friend with a couple of younger sisters and we all used to play with just about every doll and figurine that was out back then... trolls were a favorite because hey could be just about anything, from elf-like pixies who played mischief for fun to the big bad Billy Goat's Gruff troll under the bridge :)
it's healthy to grow and realize the big bad ones are usually just misunderstood and just as loveable as the cute ones... I remember how scared my friends little sister usd to get when we read the scary stories (not just about trolls, there were much scarier monsters in children's stories)... then we'd make them laugh by adding some silly ending like the monsters pants fell down or the monster giggled and was shown to be harmless and just wanted to be loved and appreciated and a friend like everybody else... we made friends with all the monsters that way :)
thanks for the memories, and for the great insight
and thoughtfulness to post this here...
honest love, ric

that's the Three Billy Goats Gruff troll :)
there are lots of childrens stories about trolls and they come in all shapes and sizes and some are distorted (considered ugly) and som are cute... some are grumpy and some are happy... in fact I read somewhere that originally Snow White was going to have seven trolls, but the writer opted for dwarfs...
I've written a bit about what the the word troll means to me in several previous threads... basically I see trolling as seeking attention... I'm seeking your attention by responding to you, I'm trolling for your attention... simple as that for me...
the negative connotation comes from the fact that some people don't differentiate as to what kind of attention they troll for... some just do anything for attention even if a group asks them to stop... some troll to be popular or to control others... some deliberately upset people to receive negative attention... I believe these are the kind of troll focused on so much in the recent FAQs posted...
I just hope posting all this information about them doesn't bring some real Usenet problems to this newsgroup...
but being called a troll is like "DUH?" to me because I am a troll... I seek attention... trolling, fishing, seeking attention... why?... because I'm lonely, because I love sharing, because I feel better when I share...
