Nowhere To Go
January 3, 2000
>I have 2 days' off but I just find nowhere to go and nobody to see,
>so I just stayed home until I go back to work tommorrow.
>
>I know that life is not supposed to be this way but what can I do!?

come to Orlando...
or just go out... for a walk... to a park... sit under a tree... library... supermarket... museum... show/concert/movie... take a basketball to a hoop and shoot... go to a golf range or batting cage or bowling alley or anywhere and play... go to anywhere... and try not to focus on being alone or feeling alone, but try to focus on being where you are and enjoying it...
search online for local groups... local webpages often have local chats where you can meet people in your area... ICQ (great communication program) has local lists for lots of areas (I've found lots of friend online and offline this way)...
join or volunteer in a group/activity interested in something you're interested in...
call a local chat line if they're free or if you can afford it...
join a local mailing list (search www.onelist.com or www.egroups.com or www.listz.com or www.listbot.com or a few big search engines for "mailing +list +yourtown")... or a mailing list relating to something you are interested in...
get a frivolous weekend job that puts you in contact with as many people as possible (not highly recommended, but it's something to do)...
knock on a neighbor's door and say "hi, I live next door and I'm bored and was wondering if you'd like to do something"... leave out "I'm bored" if you think he/she'd be insulted... substitute "play a game of - anygame-", or anything for "do something" if you think he/she might enjoy a specific activity... might help to pay attention to the neighbor's habits for a week or two to see if you can notice a hint at some activity they might like...
put a profile on www.friendfinder.com or a related website...
start a weekend babysitting service (if you like kids)... you'd be amazed at how many single parents you'll find... or couples with single friends... or couples who might become your friends... to start, put signs up in local supermarkets and small ads in local papers...
I'm kinda sleepy, but there are more ideas floating around in bits and pieces in my head and hopefully others will come up with still more... just do something...
honest love, ric
