Bird

February 2, 1998

from the nether regions of the journey
I endeavor to communicate today
with intermittent rhyme and reason
I have no idea what to say
but still this is the only way...

there's a bird in me
stretching to fly
the spirit stalls
or is it the heart
or is it the engine
just falling apart

there's something in me
stretching to fly
what else to do
I don't know why
then something calls
almost goodbye
don't want to go
don't want to die

there's something in me
stretching to fly
  but.. sput.. putt.. stalls...

 there's something in me...
oh say can you see?
stretching to fly
it sometimes stalls
what else to do
but enjoy the falls
bounce off the ground
let go a cry
get up again
no matter why
there's just one choice
stretching to fly

...finally catching up on the the pile of mail...
when I slip into the rut of what to say
and my answer is... "I'm not sure"...

...when the direct path to me seems to fail...
and the words don't seem to know the way
one way out is through metaphor

to remember from my perspective
there are three choices...
to share, to hide, to die...
the first is being alive
the second is dying
the third is dead

  to remember what I want...

as long as I live I want to live
so sharing is the only choice for me
so I click on the reply to all button
when words inspire me to write
to say thank you and hope
  yes, hope is alright...

and I cast these words to where the button sends them
from temporary darkness reaching for eternal light...
to say hello... good day... good night...
  just hello... g'day... good night...

ric

life is a roller coaster
if I only reach out to you from the highs
you will never know who I am
