you may have to ask your news administrator at your ISP to add the newsgroup... just call or email your ISP support to find out who to ask... they used to have a related Chat Room on the web at www.wbs.com (you'd have to search for the room, it's a big chat server), but I don't know if it's still in operation... then this is another web chat room:
ALANON CHAT
if you have IRC, there are groups there (IRC is a communications program more like a chat than a newsgroup) - it's a free download at www.mirc.com ... you can learn how to use it at the alt.irc newsgroup... and learn more about the Al-Anon group at AL-ANON and you can email jgoetcheus@gnn.com for more info...
there's also mailing lists... an email with the word "SUBSCRIBE" followed by your name gets you subscribed... I believe you can just get info by sending an email with the word "INFO" in it... subject line can be blank... listproc@solar.rtd.utk.edu
