Celebrity Encounter Story told by Sterling and Earl:

Burt Bacharach is, quite simply, one of the most accomplished composers of the 20th Century. In the '60s and '70s, Bacharach was a dominant figure in popular music, writing a remarkable 52 Top 40 hits. The man behind all of these many hits was coming to town, so of course that warranted a visit by Sterling and Earl.

Burt was having a concert on our college campus and that worked out perfectly for us, this is our turf. We had to be there to see a play for one of our classes anyway so waiting around afterwards for an autograph would be easy. That was the plan and hopefully it would work it for us.

After we saw the play we were required to watch, we walked over to the television screens outside of the venue Bacharach was performing in. From there we were able to watch quite a bit of the show, which was quite cool. It seemed like the show was finally coming to an end so we quickly rushed to the back exit to prepare.

There was already a limo parked outside which could only be waiting for one man, Burt Bacharach! We figured it would be best to wait close to the limo and hoped he would be coming down soon. The crowd started to pour out of the venue and we knew that the concert was truly over. We didn't let the crowd distract us and instead kept our eyes focused on the doors, any minute now.

After quite a wait, Burt Bacharach made his exit and started heading towards the limousine. Once he was close enough, Earl asked for an autograph. Burt told us he would sign, but to give him a second while he put his things in the limo. After putting his things away he came back to us and had no problem signing for both of us.

We asked him some questions and talked a little and found him to be a really pleasant man. Then we each got a picture with him and thanked him before he headed off. He jokingly said to the driver of a van nearby, take me with you before hoping into the limo. Don't know what that was about, but we didn't care because our mission was accomplished.

Final Thoughts

Burt is a class act when it comes to signing autographs for fans. Thank you so much Mr. Bacharach!!
