With his Brooklyn accent and cynical delivery, Colin Quinn was bound to make a mark on the stand up comic circuit. Soon Quinn found himself with a coveted spot on Saturday Night Live, taking over as host of the "Weekend Update" segment in January 1998 after the firing of Norm MacDonald; he remained the anchor until his departure from SNL in 2000. Quinn has even one of the names listed on the "100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time" by Comedy Central.
Clearly Quinn has a killer stand up routine and it was about to be put to the test in our very own town, wow. He was out on a short college campus invasion tour and we were really excited for this event. Another great thing about the show was that it was free to college student and that's always a good thing. Sterling, Earl, and Mr. Ao hoped that he would be easy to get an autograph from since we knew the campus well, I guess we were about to find out.
The show started with the "funniest student on campus" contest and it was really interesting to see some of our fellow alumni take a shot at the mic. They sure couldn't compare to Colin Quinn's sharp and witty comedy routine. We were really impressed when Colin even remarked about certain landmark restaurants and places around town, he really did his homework that's for sure. The show was extremely funny and we had a great time.
The laughs couldn't continue all night, however, as the show eventually had to come to an end. The show ended and Colin quickly left the room and we quickly got up to try and beat him outside. We searched for Colin in the building, but had no idea where he went. We finally spotted him through a glass door and took off in his direction. Colin stopped and turned around when we opened the door and asked nicely for an autograph.
He smiled and had no problem signing for us. Colin did take us off to the side, probably to make sure he didn't get a crowd started. After getting his autograph he posed for a picture with each of us which was sure nice of him. We gave him a big thank you and we were off.
