Celebrity Encounter Story told by Earl:

(Continued from Susan Sarandon) Goldie Hawn began her career as one of the regular cast members on the 1960s sketch comedy show Laugh-In. Noted equally for her chipper attitude and her bikini and painted body, she personified a 60s "It Girl". Hawn went on to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work in the 1969 film Cactus Flower.

Ever since, Goldie Hawn has remained a popular figure in entertainment thanks to hit films like "The First Wives Club". Being huge movie fans, of course we've enjoyed Goldie's films over the years, but would've never guessed that we would be meeting her one day. If you are just joining in, we are at a film festival in town and just managed to meet the amazing Susan Sarandon.

I heard Susan Sarandon talking about a "Goldie" and wondering if she had checked into the hotel yet. Sterling didn't hear anything involving the words "Goldie", but then we overheard Susan Sarandon again on the cell phone. Now she was talking to this "Goldie" and this really peaked our curiostiy. She said, "Where are you right now? You're walking through the cemetery? No, Goldie wait there and we'll pick you up".

We had no idea if this Goldie was indeed the Goldie Hawn we have all grown to love over the years, I mean Goldie isn't a common name you hear everyday. And if it was indeed her, what in the world was she doing walking to the venue through a cemetery? The Jeep that dropped off Susan Sarandon left for this "Goldie" and we waited in anticipation.

The vehicle finally returned and we figured we were just a little too star crazy and were probably just hoping it was Hawn, due to all of the celebrities at the film festival. The engine shut off and we didn't notice anything at first. Then a familiar face emerged from the car; yes it was indeed Goldie Hawn!! Our moment of stargazing couldn't last long because she was in a mad rush and it didn't look like she would be slowing down her pace any time soon.

Both of us caught up with her and asked if she would mind signing an autograph for us. Goldie took the Sharpie and quickly signed both of the index cards that we gave her, score! When asked about a quick photo-op she responded, "I have to get inside, but I'll do it when I come back out". Both of us thanked her and she made her way into the venue. We couldn't believe that we had just met Goldie Hawn and it took a couple of minutes to soak in.

This was the most surprising celebrity encounter that we have had up to this point and this day was just getting better and better. Evidently Susan Sarandon, besides getting an award at this film festival, was also showing a very special showing of "Moonlight Mile" and invited Goldie Hawn to come along (who was filming "The Banger Sisters" with her). The problem was that we still had other celebrities we wanted to meet that day and didn't know if we could make it back to get a picture with her. We decided to try and get Erika Christensen and Tony Shalhoub's autographs before attempting to come back and try for a photo-op.

(Story continued on Erica Christensen and then Tony Shalhoub)

Welcome back... After attempting to get the autographs of both of those celebrities there was still enough time to try for that picture Goldie promised. We rushed back and we were in luck because the Jeep was still there. There were two ladies waiting anxiously by the back entrance and we figured they were waiting for Susan Sarandon (little did they know Goldie Hawn was inside). The time was very critical because we wanted to try and get Robin Tunney's autograph at 1:15pm and it was now 12:55pm.

Some more time passed and suddenly the door swung open and out comes Goldie Hawn. She was leaving a little bit early and was planning on walking back to her hotel, despite the staff asking if she desired a ride. This says a lot about Goldie's personality and indicates that she's not the type of person who needs to be pampered all the time. She was in a hurry but Earl asked, "Goldie can we please get a picture with you? You said you would take one with us after the show."

She said "Oh Yeah" and stopped and posed for four pictures with us and took off on her way through the cemetery to her hotel. How cool is that? Although she was in a rush both times she at least made an attempt to accommodate in some small way, plus she kept her word to us. This was the last celebrity encounter we would have this day: Robin Tunney and Dominique Swain were no shows. Our whole visit to this film festival was a bright one and we'll be sure to visit it every year from now on.

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts on Goldie Hawn and the festival in general: Goldie Hawn was in a rush both times, but at least took a second out of her life to sign and pose for pictures with two lucky fans. Goldie is definitely the best surprise of our autograph career... so far. Thank you so much Goldie and keep up the great work! Joey Lauren Adams, Barry Tubb, Tony Shalhoub, and Erica Christensen were all really friendly and good signers.

Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn were nice, yet rushed, but they at least put pen to paper and that's a good thing coming from the two biggest stars of the day. We didn't have to wait that long at all for any of the celebrities we met this day, which was a nice change. The waiting actually came when Dominique Swain and Robin Tunney didn't show up; hopefully they'll decide to come one day. One of our most successful and memorable autograph outings we've had thus far. Thank you everyone!
