Cunningham came to the Eagles in 1985 as a cocky second-round pick from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He developed into a superstar, but unfortunately was never able to take the team to a superbowl. After retiring in 1995 as an Eagle, Randall returned to the NFL in 1997 with the Minnesota Vikings, and had an incredibly successful season with them in 1998. He drifted from Minnesota to Dallas and finally to Baltimore.
He started as an Eagle and ended his career as an Eagle, as he came back to the team in order to retire in 2002 as an Eagle. The Eagles and Dallas Cowboys are big rivals and as a result Randall Cunningham was a notorious foe of the Cowboys. It was quite ironic when he came to Dallas in 2000 as a back up quarterback, but I for one was glad to see him join my team. I was on vacation in Wichita Falls Texas and while I was there would try to get autographs of his favorite football team while visiting.
Of course I'm talking about the Dallas Cowboy Training Camp. Autograph seekers are everywhere and so it makes it really hard to get autographs even when players do decide to sign. Crowds are usually really rough and you can get pretty banged up trying to get autographs.
One day while visiting the camp we (my mom) had a good spot at the fence and awaited the end of practice. The horn bellowed and players started to go to the locker room and as usual fans would call to the players for autographs. I really wanted to get Randall Cunningham's autograph, because I've always been a fan of his over the years, even though I'm a Die Hard cowboy fan. I saw him walking past the fence and no one was asking him to sign, so I yelled, "Randall can you pleassee sign an autograph?"
Randall looked right at me and walked directly to me and signed away. This was one of the only times at Cowboy camp that I was able to get a player to come directly to me. It was so cool of him to do that and I didn't see him sign one other time the whole time I was there, lucky me I guess. This was my lucky day because not only did I get Randall's autograph, but also Troy Aikman's thanks to my Mom (read his story to find out more).
