David Copperfield Autograph

Date: May 7, 2002

Celebrity Encounter Story told by Sterling and Earl:

Sterling and Earl have been friends since childhood and we remember one of our favorite actives growing up: Magic. David Copperfield was one of the main reasons for our facination and we took numerous after school magic classes because of the inspiration of this man. To say the least he is definitely someone we grew up admiring, so it was amazing news that he was coming to town. So Sterling and Earl set off to get David Copperfield's magical autograph.

We were kind of questioning how this autograph hunt would end because he is very secretive and doesn't want people to know how his tricks are done. By this we mean that he hires lots of security to keep these secrets and we feared that they would also keep us away from trying to get close to the backstage area.

We didn't think we would be able to get anywhere near him but weren't going to let that discourage us. Both of us were surprised to see that he traveled in a tour bus and waited there in the hopes that he we would come through for us. Security surprisingly didn't mind us waiting around so that made us a bit more comfortable.

We arrived at the venue around 3pm and the show started at 6:30pm and again at 9:30pm. Friend Mr. Ao waited with us for some time, but eventually had to leave due to a final he had to take. There was no sign of David before any of the shows and that meant we would have to wait until the 9:30pm show was over to get an autograph, yikes. This was quite a long wait but we're used to that and patiently studied for our finals near the tour bus. Sterling and Earl then spotted around 7 fans waiting near the buses, so we went over and waited there ourselves.

It was about 45 minutes later that the illusionist himself flew out of the building and landed right in front of us (it was more of a walk then flight). He signed autographs for everybody that waited and took pictures with a few people. Sterling and Earl just happened to be those few people who got a picture with him, thankfully. We couldn't believe that we were actually meeting David Copperfield, one of our childhood idols. It was sure nice of him to come out and sign and all of us thanked him before he headed into the bus. What a guy.

Final Thoughts

It felt good to be rewarded with an autograph and photo-op after waiting for so long. Mr. Copperfield's good personality on television is no illusion; he is a very friendly and nice guy!
