Bruce Campbell has scaled the casualty-littered mountain of cult movie stardom. First attaining more notoriety than fame for his performance in Sam Raimi's "The Evil Dead". Since then he has built quite the fan following and has had a long successful career. Being a self-described B-movie actor, Campbell recently wrote a book about his experience in the business as a B-movie star and cult icon, titled "If Chins Could Kill".
It just so happened that he was coming to town to sign this best seller at a nearby bookstore and we couldn't wait for the event. There was one catch to the signing though; he would only be signing the book and NOTHING else. This ruled out any fan memorabilia, so we purchased the book of course.
We had to get up early in the morning to get tickets to ensure a good place in the autograph line. Both of us were in the second group and were confident about getting our books autographed. Bruce showed up at the bookstore really late, because evidently his flight was delayed and he took a wrong turn before getting there. When he arrived he had a long speech prepared as well as a question and answer session. He was so funny and we really enjoyed listening to this man's wonderful sense of humor. He also talked quite a bit about his future projects and of course his work with Sam Raimi.
It was all very interesting but thankfully he got down to the very reason he came out, signing autographs. After a bit of a wait, our group was up and we got closer and closer to meeting this cult favorite. I was first up and Bruce offered his hand first before signing anything. He looked at my Hawaiian shirt and said, "I LOVE your shirt" and this was a great lead in for conversation.
I knew that Bruce would probably say something because I had heard he loves these kinds of shirts, so glad I wore one. Since I now had his full attention I asked him a couple of questions about some of his upcoming movies, especially The Majestic and Spider-Man. After I talking with him I was able to get two pictures with him as well. Sterling was up next and Bruce was just as friendly, signing and posing for a picture with him as well. Both of us thought he was a great guy and it was such a pleasure to meet him.
