Fame has come to Erin Brockovich in a rather unexpected way, thanks to her legal actions against a Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The giant utility paid the largest tort injury settlement in U.S history and the story has gone on to become a successful Hollywood film, which received 5 academy awards -one of which was best actress award for Julia Roberts.
Erin Brockovich has since become a celebrity of sorts and is a role model for being a strong independent woman. Erin was in town as a special guest speaker for "The Power of One", a program to encourage woman to be strong in business. This sounded like a possibly interesting autograph opportunity, so off we went.
Sterling and Earl arrived at the event about an hour before she was set to hit the stage. Noticing that we were the only ones waiting at the doors, we decided to sit and wait for Erin to walk by in the lobby. It wasn't long before Sterling and Earl were nearly the only men in the lobby, which was funny. After the crowd of women entered the event Sterling and Earl remained in the lobby hoping Erin would enter the building this way. We noticed a news crew waiting nearby and figured they were waiting for her as well, hopefully.
The wait wasn't that bad and eventually we saw the one and only Erin Brockovich making her way to the news crew. She was interviewed for a few minutes and once she finished, Earl stopped her for an autograph. She said she was in a hurry, but would quickly sign for us. Erin talked to Earl a bit because she liked his name and age!
She signed for both of us and posed for photos. While she was signing for us the camera crew taped the whole thing. It was a bit weird to be filmed getting the autographs and we didn't make it home in time to see it air. Each of us thanked her and she was off to greet her awaiting guests.
