John Astin will be best remembered, of course, as a television pop-culture icon. Of course I'm talking about his eccentric and charming character on the television show "the Adams Family" as Gomez Adams. But as incredible as his portrayal of Gomez is, it's just a small sliver of this man's wonderful career. Mr. Astin was going to be starring in a play in our hometown, so Sterling and Earl would obviously be on the prowl to meet him.
We got to the event before the show even started and hoped that we were there before even Mr. Astin. It appeared that he beat us there because the show started and we hadn't seen a thing. This meant that we would be waiting around until after the show, but if we met him it would be well worth it. At one point we went inside and were able to watch some of the play on the television screens outside the theatre, which was cool and helped pass the time.
The play finally ended and we anxiously awaited Mr. Astin's exit in the back of the theatre. It wasn't that much longer until we spotted the man himself exiting the theatre and starting to make his way to his ride. Before he could leave, both of us called him over and he graciously agreed to sign. He was in a rush but still took a few seconds to sign and pose for pictures with each of us. Both of us thanked him for stopping to sign and parted ways. When we were driving home we noticed that we were driving alongside Mr. Astin for a while, which was kind of funny. This was a nice success and we went home happy.
