This autograph hunt was going to require a trip about 2-3 hours away from our hometown, but the celebrities *supposed* to attend were: Susan Sarandon, Joey Lauren Adams, Dominique Swain, Tony Shalhoub, Erika Christensen, Robin Tunney, and Barry Tubb which would make the trip totally worth it.
This is the same film festival we attended the previous year to try and meet Elizabeth Taylor. Sterling was working the night before and the night of the film festival, so he kept telling me he wouldn't be able to attend. So my plans were to go with my Mom at around 6am, so we would get there by 9am (when Joey Lauren Adams was supposed to show up). My poor Mom is so nice for putting up with the things I've dragged her to, lol. At about 1am Sterling called and woke me up to say he was going, but would leave a little later. I was so glad to hear that my buddy was coming along and we agreed to meet at one of the venues later on.
I left right on time and after the long drive we made it there a little before 9am. We walked up to the venue and they told us to get inside because once the show started no one else could come in. Earl's Mom went to the restroom and I casually admired the lobby looking for any signs of celebrities.
I decided to go back outside and boy was I shocked when I opened the door and almost ran into the beautiful Joey Lauren Adams and actor Barry Tubb. Both of them were about to pass by me when somehow I managed to barely get out a "Joey, Can I please have your autograph?" Joey smiled and said she would be more than happy to and Barry Tubb went inside. Joey then leaned against the wall next to me waiting for me to find my Sharpie in my pockets, I was fumbling all over the place.
I finally found it and she graciously added her autograph to my photo. My Mom eventually emerged from the building looking for me and was surprised to see who I was talking to. After she was done signing I got a picture with her and then she just stood there waiting with us. This encounter came so suddenly that I wasn't ready for this action quite yet, but here I was standing with Joey Lauren Adams.
My Mom and I were trying to think of things to say and make conversation with this great actress and it was funny how long we stood there together. I asked her if she would sign an index card for my friend, Sterling, in case he didn't show up and she was more than happy to. When I told her how far we had come, she smiled and new exactly how far it was because she came from our airport. Conversation was starting to run a little dry, but before that happened Barry Tubb came back out to get her and they left. I thanked her so much for stopping to sign and she disappeared behind the doors.
That was a great experience and I hoped I would have the same luck with the celebrities still to come. Both of us then drove to another nearby venue for Susan Sarandon, but the only thing I ended up finding there was Sterling. Sterling just arrived and was actually looking for me at the wrong place so I guess it's a good thing we bumped into each other. Things at this venue weren't looking too promising and we decided to try for Susan Sarandon later in the day at another event.
Since we had time to kill we headed back to the other venue in the hopes that Sterling could meet Joey Lauren Adams for himself. There was no sense of urgency because if he wasn't successful at least Earl had an extra autograph for him.
There was a really big line now (waiting for Susan Sarandon's main event) and I decided to go to the side of the building to check things out. I guess I must have some sort of magnetic pull or attraction to Joey because she was over there greeting some fans. Sterling waited his turn and finally approached her for an autograph and she couldn't have been more willing. Each of us got a picture with her and were so delighted to have met such an amazing actress/person.
