FIFTH GENERATION

29. Jean Baptiste "John" FINOT was born on May 12 1814 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or, France. He died on Mar 21 1880 in Levan Twp., Jackson Co., IL. He was buried on Mar 23 1880 in Camp Creek Baptist Cem., Jackson Co., IL. Jean is said to have been a blacksmith in his village in France. I am assuming that they came to America in 1868. However, their daughter, Frances, states on the 1900 census that she came to America in 1860. We have a copy of the manifest of the ship, SS Nuremberg, with Jean Finot and family, including, Jean, age 46, Jeanne, age 34, Francoise, Pierrette, J. Baptiste, Louis, Marie and Philibert, all from France. The ship's logs were certified by the Captain on March 23, 1861 at the Port of New Orleans. The Captain certified that the passengers embarked from the Port of Havre, France. The Passport issued to Jean and his family states that he applied and was granted passport to the United States in December of 1860 at Beaune. Later, in the 1870 census, the family's name is spelled FIENO, and they are living in Subdivision 8, St. Louis, MO. John (Jean) is listed as being a Blacksmith.

He was married to Jeanne "Eugenia" MEUNIER (daughter of MEUNIER and UNKNOWN) on Jan 9 1850 in , , France. Jeanne "Eugenia" MEUNIER was born on Nov 25 1825 in Bligny les Beaune, Cote-d'Or, France. She died on Mar 28 1914. She was buried on Mar 30 1914 in Camp Creek Baptist Cem., Jackson Co., IL. There is another spelling for Jeanne's last name - Manieur or Menieur. When Jean died, Jeanne went to live with her son and daughter - Philip and Ellen, on the old FINOT farmstead in Overlan, St. Louis Co., MO.
