26. Antoinette FINOT was born on Mar 7 1808 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or, France. She died on Feb 26 1875 in Charny, Cote d'Or, France. Antionette was an unwed mother and Raphael's father is unknown for sure. For more details, see "la Famille Finot". In a story handed down through the family, the father of Antionette's child, Raphael, was murdered by her father, Jean Finot. However, newly discovered records show that Jean Finot died in 1826, and therefore could not have been the one to have killed Raphael's father (if anyone did). We have since found that Antoinette had three children out of wedlock. One, Claudine, before Raphael, then Raphael followed by Jacques. In 1866, according to the marriage document of Raphael and Marie Josephine, Antionette was living at Charney, canton of Vitteaux, Cote d' Or. Antoinette is listed in French records as a "journey woman".
Raphael MORENTE was born about 1791 in , Andelusia,
Spain. He died on Mar 13 1849 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or, France.
This is the Raphael that is thought to be Raphael's father and the "lover"
of Antoinette Finot. So far there is no absolute proof, only some very interesting
circumstances. Raphael Morente lived in Thorey-sous-Charney and had a wife.
He came from Andelusia, Spain so was Spanish/Andelusian and not French, as also
the name Raphael is not french, but rather Spanish. The custom of that day, was
to name the first son after the father, and, I am told by present day French
authorities, that even if the father was not the husband of the mother of the
child, she often named the first born son after that father any way. The fact
that the name, "Raphael" is not French, but rather of Spanish or Andelusian
derivative, suggests that Antoinette certainly would not have named her first
born son "Raphael" unless he was, in fact, the son of Raphael Morente.
It is also suggested by present day authorities, that it was not uncommon for
young, very poor French women to give favors to older men in or around their
villages, as a means of earning support. The fact that the only man listed in
records any where around Thorey-sous-Charney with the name of Raphael was, in
fact, living right there in Thorey-sous-Charney - just down the street and over
in the next block, certainly gives credence to the theory that Raphael Morente
is, in fact, the father of our ancestor, Raphael Finot. Antoinette FINOT and
Raphael MORENTE had the following children:
31 i.
Claudine FINOT was born on Sep 15 1831 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or,
France. We do not know for sure who was the father of Claudine, as her mother
Antoinette was not married at this time. However, at a later date, we suspect
that Raphael Morente was the father of our Raphael Finot, as well as Antoinette's
third child, Jacque. Therefore, we are speculating that Raphael Morente may
well be the father of Claudine, as well. She died on May 23 1834 in Thorey sous
Charny, Cote-d'Or, France. She was buried on May 24 1834 in Thorey sous Charny,
Cote-d'Or, France.

Raphael FINOT.
She was married to Antoine LALIGANT
(son of Francois LALIGANT and Marguerite
REMON) on Jun 25 1845 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or, France.
Antoine LALIGANT was born on Feb 12 1810 in Charny, Cote d'Or, France.
He died on Aug 25 1875 in Charny, Cote d'Or, France. He was buried on Aug 27
1875 in Charny, Cote d'Or, France. Antoinette FINOT and Antoine LALIGANT had
the following children:
33 i.
Jacques FINOT was born on Sep 28 1844 in Thorey sous Charny, Cote-d'Or, France.
While Antoinette Finot was not married at the time Jacques was born, she gave
him her last name of FINOT, as she had done with her two previous illegitimate
children, Claudine and Raphael. Shortly after Jacques was born in September
of 1844, Antoinette married Antoine Laligant in June of 1845. After Jacques
was born, the man (Raphael Morente) who we suppose is Jacques' real father, died,
and within a couple months of his death, Antoinette's new husband, Antoine Laligant,
amended Jacques birth certificate and stated that he, Antoine Laligant took responsibility
for the boy and named him as his own son. Thereafter, Jacques Finot's last name
was changed to Laligant and to further add mystery to the story, Antoine and
Antoinette Laligant took their son and left Thorey-sous-Charney just a couple
of weeks after this happened. It appears that it might have been a "face-saving"
act for the child and Antoinette on the part of Antoine Laligant. Jacques only
lived to be about seven years old. He died on May 26 1852 in Charny, Cote d'Or,
France.
