Equipping Christian Leaders to Fulfill the Great Commission
18 October 2007
As we watch our 7-month-old daughter Aletheia develop hand-eye-mouth coordination and start scooting on all fours, we can draw a lot of parallels between a church plant and an infant!
I (Nate) am beginning to get coordinated in my weekly schedule to be consistent with private prayer, sermon preparation, administration, and pastoral calls. We’re developing structure as a church, too: my office has three walls now instead of two, the policies we developed for responding to needy people who ask for money are working (kind-of J), and I’m particularly excited about a booklet I just finished to orient visitors that come on Sundays.

Some men in our church: Chris, Mark, Nate, Josh, & Chip
We used the photo to the right as the graphic for an advertisement this Fall in the K-State Collegian newspaper. Chris has been bringing several guys to apologetics studies at our house, and several more students have begun attending Sunday worship!. Mark and Chip are on the steering committee; I’m taking them through a study on Biblical eldership.

In addition to being a mother of nine, starting a new home-school semester, and hosting frequent guests, Paula leads a local book club and has also just started a women’s Bible study. Someone once said that in the body of Christ, the pastor’s wife is like the liver, which performs over 200 functions – many of them simultaneously! Please uphold Paula in your prayers.

Josh (right), is our first soldier to go to Iraq, and we will be saying goodbye to a second soldier next week. Josh is shown here opening gifts after our commissioning service. We also sent two members on a week-long medical mission trip to Romania! As a church located between a university and an army base, we anticipate equipping and sending many more.

Our church ran a booth in front of the courthouse at the city-wide pep rally for the K-State football team this Fall. The photo to the left was taken of our family after we and some friends had distributed about 400 evangelistic tracts and 200 bottles of water! We also hosted a city-wide worship service (representatives from 4 churches showed up), and we’re planning to host a Reformation Day party next week – please pray for it!
On my 8th birthday, my
last present was a little card with a baby on it, that said, “To my buddy: I
can’t wait to see you on my birthday!” It took me a while, but when I figured
out that Mama was pregnant, boy was I excited! When Aletheia was born, she became
my official buddy. I usually get to take care of her (unless Mama or someone
else is taking care of her). I just turned 9 this July, and it feels different.
Now that I’m older, there’s bigger things to do, like changing baby’s diapers
and putting my little sister down for naps and helping Mama with cooking.
In school, my favorite subject is Art; I enjoy drawing flowers and trees and stuff in nature. I’m reading Journey to the Bottomless Pit, a book about a black slave that became a guide for Mammoth Cave. I’m also reading through Genesis and am at the point where Isaac gets married to Rebecca!
My brother Peter and I signed up for a junior dramatic contest last spring and did The Iguana Brothers as a duo. We won all three times, which means we were the best in Kansas! But I still have to remember that God is the one who gave me the ability to do that, and the glory goes to God. Now, my sister Irene and I are finishing guitar lessons from my Dad, and in a couple of weeks, we have a recital for our church!
Pray that I can help more with jobs around the house and that I will grow up to be a godly woman and be able to read the Bible and understand it and be kind to my sisters!
