The
Nam June Paik Exhibit at the GuggenheimMuseum
I just got back from the Guggenheim Museum
on 89th Street and Fifth
Avenue in Manhattan. The museum
is built in a spiral. I went on every
level. The exhibit/installation
I saw is by performance artist and technology
expert Nam June Paik who was born in Korea.
It was really great! I
really liked the waterfall with the laser
beaming off the mirrors. On
the top level the laser projection seemed
grainier than on the first level.
The garden with the television screens everywhere
was really cool!
My favorite part was all of the fish tanks
with the T.V. screens behind
them. The fact that he had extremely
thin television screens on every
level was amazing. I estimated there
were about 84-95 television screens
on the first level. What does
it cost to visit the museum. It is FREE
for kids under 12, $12 for adults, $7 for
students (with proper ID
and over 12). I really loved going!
It was great! This is Elizabeth with
a museum review of the Nam June Paik Exhibit
at the Guggenheim Museum.
Air
Pollution
Ever gone on a trip into a city? Noticed how
dirty the air is? That's
because of pollution. I think factories shouldn't
pollute the air. Trucks and
buses pollute the air also. That's why next
year, the year 2000, they are
going to have cars and trucks that don't pollute
the air. They already have
buses that use special kinds of fuels that
don't pollute the air. New York City was just told that its air quality
is not what it should be according to the law. We need people to
use more cars and trucks that don't pollute. This is Jimmy M. with
a Kid Commentary.
Gossip
Isn't Harmless
Gossip to me is
an important subject because it can
be about top leaders of a country or a single
mother of two. It doesn’t matter
who you are; you can be affected by gossiping.
Gossip is when someone
repeats something about another person which
may or may not be true.
I think that a lot of people gossip but they
don’t think of what happens to
the people they gossip about. It can
sometimes ruin someone’s reputation.
The difference between news and gossip is
that news is directly from a source.
It can be checked. Gossip is usually
spread by word of mouth so it’s very hard
to find who started it; also gossip is usually
spread to embarrass people. I think
you should not spread gossip because it will
hurt the person the rumor is about.
If it’s your friend, then say something good
about that friend instead of starting
the rumor. This is Elizabeth with a kid commentary.
Helmets
Are A Must
I think hat wearing a helmet when you are
biking, rollerblading
or skateboarding, should be made a law all
around the U.S.A.
Those who are caught without a helmet, should
be given a fine.
They should also be going to a class where
the teachers
keep reminding them to wear a helmet. When
they get out of the class, and
they still do not listen, they will have to
go to work everyday after class for
one year or until they learn.

Uniforms
in Schools
You hate uniforms right? Well, did you ever
think how good they could be?
They show others how good your school is.
It will be boring to wear the
same thing all the time, but at least you
don't have to raid your closet for
just one outfit. So, next time there's a poll
where you vote whether to have
uniforms or not, vote yes. I am Renesa

Kids
Going To School
Should kids go to school? A lot of kids would
say "no" right away. I think
all kids should go to school. It's a great
way to meet new friends. It's also a
great way to improve your communication skills.
You can learn and do a
lot of new things, such as art projects, and
vocabulary words. You might
get to visit places that you have never been
to before. You may also do
many cool projects, like this one! I think
school is fun. This is Jennifer with a Kid Commentary.
Women
and Professional Baseball
I think that it is unfair that there isn't
a women's professional baseball team.
Women should have the right to compete against
men. Most people think
that men are a lot stronger and tougher than
women. They might be, but I
think women are just as good, probably even
better! This is Katie in the
Critics Corner.
Why
Babies Are Special
I never truly realized how special babies
are until my mom had my baby
sister last March. My baby sister needs
someone to take care of her all the
time. She not only needs clean diapers
and food, but play time and cuddling
time. She's really great becaause she
smiles at us so much and she likes to
laugh. She taught me to have more patience
and to slow down a little .
She has taught me how important it is to give
babies lots of love and attention
so she'll feel good about herself and grow
to be a happy adult. This is Philip with a kid commentary on why
babies are special.
Pokemon
Fever
From Bulbasaur to Mew, kids everywhere have
caught Pokemon fever.
Pokemon merchandise is widespread from video
games to the well known
card game. It all started with the television
show, which is based on Ash
Ketchum from Pallet Town. He wants to become
Pokemon Master. At his
side is an electric Pokemon called Pikachu,
his best friend. Ash Ketchum
travels from town to town to get the badges that will allow him to become
a Pokemon
master. It's fun for kids and that's why it's so popular.

Please
Don't Litter!
On the way home I saw a person throw a soda
can on the
sidewalk. I thought that he did not
care about saving the earth. I
think that littering is horrible. If
people all over the
world did not care about litter then the world
would be a disgusting place.
We need to take care of where we live.
I think people should try to
pick up trash and grow more plants in the
neighborhood. Planting trees would
help clean the air. We all need oxygen
to breathe. I wish that people would be more aware of
litter and keeping their surroundings clean. We would feel better
about where we live. This is Kavitha with a Kid Commentary.
In
Praise of Water
One thing that is very important is
water. Water is very useful. You drink
it, you use it to take a bath,
and you water your plants. There are countless
uses for water. If there was no
water, plants would die and we could not exist.
Did you know that most of our bodies are made
up of water?
Many people who waste water should think about
the consequences. Everyone should drink about 6 cups of water everyday.
Drinking water and exercising will keep you in good health. Water
is important to anything that is alive, so please try not to waste it.
It is essential to life. This is Oriana with a kid commentary.
