There are a total of 30 million students without music programs in their schools.
That is a jaw dropping number considering there are 60,929,488 children younger then 14 years old in the United States.
Almost half of those children are without music progams.
Most school districts will drop fine arts before they would drop a single sports program. As much as I love and participate in school sports, sports cost more than fine arts because they are extra curricular activties.
If you were to compare an arts budget to a football budget, the football budget would probably be larger than the fine arts budget.
Twenty-five percent of the nations students are taught in big-city schools such as New York.
Twenty-three percent are also taught in the 100 largest school districts.
Average school sizes in those schools are 697 compared to 503 as the national average.
For these schools the custodial staff is very large, but custodial staff increases geometrically instead of linearly with larger school.
These are some of the reasons for lack of music programs, however it comes down to what is thought to be important by school boards and parents.
