In late fall 2003 I bought this 1987 Jeep Comanche. Again from a salvage auction. There was damage to the rear of the truck. Fine by me, the box would need to go anyway for what I was planning.

To get things started, off came the box. Next, some trimming to the front fenders. Back into the shop and off went the factory frame. In it's place will be 2X4 framing, a custom box, and a roll cage. The wheel base will be about 20 inches shorter than it was and about the same as a Cherokee.

I needed the space in the shop, so a block of wood from the frame to the axle and I drove it out. Next time in I plan to start on the roll cage and some sort of box.

Here is the mock up for the four link suspension. With no springs, I put the axle through it's range of travel and could see no binding!

A little more progress. The front of the cage is finished, the 2X4 rockers are in, the box is coming along, and the mount for the gas tank is situated. I might finish this thing yet!

The latest picture shows the roll cage is finished, taillights are attached, tailgate is done, "toolbox" is progressing, and finally some paint. What's left? A lot! Lift, tires, rear fenders, front bumper, cover for the "toolbox" and much more little stuff.
