1983 Major Bludd Filecards

Here are both versions of Major Bludd's filecard. Of interesting note is that on the opposite side of the older of the two cards, there is a price tag. Someone actually paid $3.99 for this figure back in 1983. That would be like paying $10 for a new figure today! Oh, wait, Star Wars figures are nearing that point as we speak....

I don't know what prompted the file card change for Major Bludd. All I can think of is that word "suckers" appears. If the word "schizophrenic" could cause a change in Zartan's filecard, then maybe "suckers" is taboo as well. Still, it was kind of cool to pick up Major Bludds at different intervals and see that his filecard had changed. When I was in the 4th grade, I also copied this poem for a friend of mine and he gave it to his Secret Santa. Later that afternoon, we were all given a lecture about the "appropriateness" of certain gifts. I still like to think that they weren't refering to me, but I'll never know.

This image is the first card that was available. The only thing I am basing this on is that on the front of the this filecard, the blister box says, "NEW! Swivel Arm Battle Grip!". The other card simply says "With Swivel Arm Battle Grip". The assumption is that the "NEW!" moniker would have come before the "With" tag.

I consider this poem on the later card to be inferior to the other one. I don't know about Harold Bloom's interpretation, but this new one just seems a bit forced. With a year or two more practice, the man Cobra Commander said thought Praust rhymes with Faust could actually make some headway in the literary world. If Mankind can write a best seller, there is hope for a rhyming Aussie with an eyepatch. The Attica Gazette, though, probably doesn't have the distribution channels necessary to give Bludd his proper exposure.
