Late winter. Most of the snow has disappeared. Temperatures are still freezing. These Russian soldiers wear their heavy winter uniforms in the VSR pattern. Their heads are covered with black ski mask and green face mask. Both provide warmth and camouflage. The soldier in the foreground carries the ubiquitous AK assault rifle whilst the sniper in the background scans for targets with his Dragunov sniper rifle and PSO scope. The ammo pouch on his hip is unique to his weapon and holds four extra magazines and cleaning kit. In the hands of this trained shooter, the Dragunov is lethal. These soldiers will continue to search their sector for targets...and eliminate them... with the Deadly Dragunov.

Two U.S. snipers keep their eyes open and their heads down. The elevated rooftop offers good observation capability and 360 degrees of view. Close at hand lies their laser range finder, mildot master, binoculars and personal radio. One sniper utilizes his periscope to scan for enemy activity. His teamate keeps low and has his scoped M14 at the ready. Both weapons are wrapped in camoflage. Elbow and knee pads help them traverse the urban combat zone with some protection from dings. Snipers from various countries gathered to compete in a week long exercise at Fort Benning, Ga. to test their skills! Urban ops, and firing from speeding Blackhawks were but a few events to be seen! This mini poster shows examples of sniper rifles used by many different countries. Above the weapons, two snipers with camo head covers aquire a target. British Snipers in the Desert
Sniper and observer of the elite British SAS unit deliver death from afar. This team experiments with their American counterparts' Remington 700 sniper rifle. Both team members wear the desert DPM pattern uniform and supplement their camouflage with ghuille hoods for additional concealment. Close to the observer is his M16 carbine and M203 grenade launcher.

Talking Tactics
U.S. army special forces takes cover behind a crumbling structure to discuss their next move. This area is not yet secure so an M60 is posted to keep a look out. A Northern Alliance soldier accompanies this team to act as translator and liason between themselves and the local population and hovers in the background. Long wiskers on the teams faces indicate the length of time spent in the field and will, at times, help alienate them a little less from the local peoples. Weapons present are SAW 249, M60E3, and SPAS 12 . The weapons are as varied as the tasks this team must perform, but are up to the job. The team consults the map and prepares to move out.

Although few in number, their contributions were considerable. Canadian snipers fought in tandem with their American allies, covering their advance in the Sha-e-kot valley, keeping the enemy off guard and saving American lives.Their shooting skills were nothing less than exemplary. These snipers wear the British desert DPM uniform with additional SAS smock. Whereas some wore the ghuille suit, others modified their uniforms with simple padding on the chest , arms and legs. Since this team uses the hefty 50 cal. Mcmillan tactical rifle, their number has been increased to three. The primary sniper employs the 50 cal., and the team commander, seen at the far left, scans the valley below. He carries the C3A1 Parker Hale sniper rifle with 10X scope.Team security falls to the man in the center. He carries the Diemaco C7A1 with M203A1 and Elcan C79 optical sight. He keeps tabs on their "six" for any uninvited company. Leica bino/rangefinders lie within reach of the primary sniper. In the foreground are borrowed American ammo boxes...enough ammo to feed this diverse collection of weapons and to keep the team effective and protected...for a while anyway! There's no time to enjoy the view Mr. Taliban. Keep your head down..there's Canadian snipers in the Sha-e-kot!

These Canadian snipers move with great stealth amongst the Afghan mountain rocks. Their ghillie suits provide excellent camouflage, and when stationary, the snipers blend perfectly with their environment. The trail in the foreground reveals fresh tracks in the dirt, and these snipers whom have been observing this trail for days, move into position to intercept this target of opportunity. These tracks do not appear by coincidence...the enemy relies on these obscure and remote trails for their own covert movements and supply routes. These snipers keep carefully to the rocks. They leave no foot prints or evidence of their own presence. The scout carefully examines the trail...He carries the Diemaco SFW carbine with M203 grenade capability. The sniper carries the heavy McMillan 50 Cal tactical rifle. By the time the sun has completely disappeared behind the mountain, this sniper team will be in place...silent...waiting...ready to practice their deadly trade.

An operator is down and time is of the essence. That critical first hour is ticking away. Getting this man to advanced medical treatment and out of the field is primary one. The sun is creeping over the horizon and the cover of darkness will soon be gone. Airforce PJ's are trained, among other things, as first responders. They must quickly stabilize this soldier and prepare him to be evacuated. At the same time, they must secure the perimeter and defend their exposed position...something else they're well trained to do! The team leader signals his team members with a quick tap on the shoulder..prepare to extract with your wounded! Two blackhawk helicopters have arrived on the scene, one preparing to land, as the other pulls security at a distance to cover the exposed PJs. The remote mountains and desolate terrain will be a welcome sight...in the rearview mirror! These men put it all on the line, that others may live....

Their ammo, and quite possibly their luck nearly depleted, these operators are desperate for a lift home...and right now there's nothing more welcome than the sight of a blackhawk helicopter overhead coming in to haul their asses out!
This recon team signals to the pilot as to their desperate position. One man has taken shrapnel wounds to his right leg but is still able to use his signal panel. The other soldier fires his M14 on full auto to keep the opposition at bay... hot brass tumbles through the air. He has placed two M67 frag grenades within reach--just in case. The ground about them is littered with spent brass and empty magazines-indicating the ferocity of this encounter. Its time to get the hell outta' dodge... "Request extraction from a hot LZ!" Australian Special Forces Move to the High Ground--
Two "Aussies" ascend the mountainous terrain to get a better view of enemy activities. The soldier in the foreground crouches behind a boulder and covers his counterparts climb. His colt M4 at the ready. He wears the shemagh for comfort and concealment. The unique desert camo pattern (Auscam) identifies both these "operators" as Australians as well as the distinctive desert hat worn by the soldier in the background. Both men are equipped with the 40mm M203 grenade launcher and have additional sights mounted atop their weapons. The PEQ/2 laser sight is also an essential supplement on their firearms. This special ops operator approaches the beach cautiously. His modified M4 carbine is at ready. This combat diver wears the Draeger re-breather and Secumar dive vest. Beneath his gear, he wears the standard woodland camouflage BDUs. His weapon sports the aimpoint site and rail system. He is fully prepared to execute his waterborne operations.

Military Art of Special Forces--
This Special Forces soldier brandishes his modified M4 carbine. Various aimpoint, and nightvision devices mounted on the KAC rail system allow quick and accurate target acquisition. A suppressor completes his weapon. On his person he carries an emergency strobe located on his shoulder. A snap link on the other shoulder can be used to secure his weapon, if need be. On his belt he carries his pistol in a flap holster, canteen and ammo. Nomex flight gloves protect and conceal his hands and over his head and face he wears the shemagh. The shemagh will hide his identity and, at a distance, help him to "blend in".

Military Art of Special Forces--
This U.S. Navy SEAL is fully prepared to engage the enemy in close quarters. When boarding ships at sea, the SEALs must be prepared for anything. His Pro-Tec helmet protects his head from collisions on the bulk-head. He wears body armor and the Nomex flight suit. The MP5 with retractable stock is suited for cramped and closed spaces. His secondary weapon is the Sadie-arm strapped to his leg; always at the ready. The drop-leg holster contains a suppressor for his pistol.

These Marine Force Recon Members are conducting a sensitive reconnaissance mission. Special Operations are nothing new to the Marines! Surveillance, reconnaissance and amphibious operations are but a few tasks these soldiers will undertake. Equipped with M16 and 203 grenade launcher, this force recon soldier radios back important information while his team member covers his "six" with an M16 with sound suppressor, both recon men carry the standard wind/dust goggles and equip their molle vests with ordinance and equipment particular to their specific needs.

These operators wear the standard desert BDUs. They wear various tactical vests that suit their individual needs. One operator is equipped with the MP5 and his counterpart carries the M60E3. The machine gunner wears his triangular bandage as a head cover while his team member prefers the boonie hat to shade his eyes. His side-arm is seen in the drop-leg holster on his right leg. These men possess enough fire power to definitely get the job done.
