JUNK YARD

Since Perestroika, Matthias Stolpe has visited junk yards in East Germany. Above he is working on a T603. He, his brother and a friend "killed" the car belonging to the older gentleman to the left.
The truck in the first 3 photos is a Robur, a make built in East Germany. Matthias found his T603, 5 years ago, in the junk yard pictured to the right. The car behind the T603 is a 1950 Soviet Gaz 12/Zim, which was also purchased.
September 1998: Here are two T600s where I found them near Portland, Oregon. The one in the front had berry bushes growing in the trunk.
February 1983: A visit to John Morris' back yard (since deceased). My brother and I checked out the two T600s, one white and one red. Previous to my visit Mr. Morris had a T87 there. The T87 is now owned by John Long.
There were all kinds of unusual vehicles and machinery there (when a Tatra guy says that - you know it must have been pretty weird stuff).
The red Tatraplan actually had a tree growing in it! The back seat was out and the tree had grown up through the inspection hole for the transmission. As far as I know, a gentleman in Los Angeles owns the white one. Apparently He scrapped the red car (it's roof was crushed).

If you have a Tatra (or something else unusual or interesting) for the junk yard, send me your scans. If you don't have a scanner, I'll scan your photos. Email me for mailing information.
