Living History,
also known as re-enacting, is a hobby for amateur historians. People with an interest in
history, specifically World War II, collect the uniforms, equipment, memorabilia, and
information about the participants who fought in the war. The Living Historian then
attends displays and historical events where they wear the uniforms and display the
equipment in an historically accurate manner. In this way, the Living Historian (and
observers) can get a better understanding of the experiences of the veteran. With
these experiences, a Living Historian can better relate to and keep alive and honour the
memory, service, and sacrifices of fighting men in our time of need. It is with this in
mind that we wear the uniform of the Irish Guards with a sense of pride, knowing the men
who wore it into combat and the price they paid to keep us free.
