About 2 seconds after the cutter entered the work for the first time. No noises, no chatter, just chips.

And it's about over... Less than five seconds to go. 3/8" HSS endmill running at 480rpm. Feed at 1 1/2" per minute. .060 depth of cut. Material is 4140 steel.
