By phone - seriously BY PHONE. Call your long distance carrier and find out what they can do in terms of international plans. Sprint has a plan that does 5 cents/min. to Japan. I'd be willing to bet AT&T and others have something similar. Some pre-paid calling cards can equal that. There is no equivalent here in Japan, and if we call you it's 27-50 cents/min.
