ELISE HOLT (1847-1873) burlesque actress - (Mrs
Palmer) born London, 11 July 1847 ; died Pittsburgh 28 December 1873 aged
26 of typhoid.
Made her first appearance on the stage under direction of Mme Louise at the Surrey Gardens in a comic song in 1863. Studied with Louise and debuted as principal dancer at the Victoria Theatre. Played Paul in OCTOROON there. Appeared at the Strand Theatre for Mrs Swanborough until October 1868 (Earl of Surrey in WINDSOR CASTLE, Don Alva in L'AFRICAINE (1865).
Went to America 7 December 1868 with the Horace (ka Harry) Wall troupe. Played 8 weeks in Boston, then moved on to the Waverley Theatre NYC with the burlesque LUCREZIA BORGIA 'yellow hair and 14 1/2 inch calves....'.
She divorced Palmer (San Francisco Sept 1869) and wed Wall. (see big obit for him 1 April 1899 in the New York Dramatic Mirror when he commits suicide.)
