ELIZA WEATHERSBY, burlesque actress, member of Thompson company born Eliza SMITH in England c1846 (?)

She began her career at Bradford. She appeared at the Strand Theatre, London, in burlesque and travelled to America in 1869 to join the Elise Holt burlesque troupe. She subsequently joined the Lydia Thompson company at Niblo's Garden (SINBAD THE SAILOR).

She seceded from the Thompson troupe to head a rival company 'The British Blondes' set up by San Francisco's Thomas Maguire, but the senior company quickly wiped the opposition out, and Miss Weathersby went back to Lydia, appearing in support of the star for several seasons in America and England.

She later played in stock at the Union Square, toured with Edward Rice in EVANGELINE, and appeared on Broadway in the disasrtous BABA, before in 1877 wedding the comedian Nat C Goodwin. Thereafter, the pair toured their own company (PIPPINS, HOBBIES, CRUETS, &c). She retired from the stage in 1884 and died 24 March 1887.
