ROOT, served with the 81st Indiana Volunteers. He is buried
in the Grantsburg cemetery. "Thomas was a
carpenter until he enlisted in the 81st Indiana Volunteers on
August 14, 1862 and mustered in August 29, 1862. He was
discharged June 13, 1865. He subsequently died of
consumption at Lebanon, Kentucky, according to his military
records. However, according to Washington County, Ohio
records, Julia reported death of Thomas H. Root, died September
21, 1875 at Grantsburg, Indiana of consumption. The death
notice says he was a carpenter of Grantsburg. On petition filed
by Julia for his pension for minor children under sixteen (16)
years of age, she states that Marcus E. E., William A. and Mary
A. survive, Thomas H. having died December of 1876, George G. and
John W. already being of age." This information was
submitted by Sue (Root) Waterman, <waterman67@adelphia.net>,
