SMIT ROTTERDAM
The Smit Rotterdam and its sister ship the Smit London are two of the most powerful ocean going tug boats in the world. These ships are designed for the heaviest tows over long distances and for salvage and assistance to ships in distress. The Smit Rotterdam/London tugs also are used to tow and service offshore oil drilling platforms in the North Sea and other areas of the world. The Smit Rotterdam was constructed in 1975 by Shipyard 'De Merwed' - The Netherlands
The Smit Rotterdam is part of the Smit Team involved in the recovery of the Soviet submarine Kursk which was lost in the North Sea in the year 2000. The Smit web site has a section devoted to the major project. You can view the full activities at

Model Information
- The model originates from a kit supplied by Billings of Denmark. Much of the kit was replaced with scratch built items using the kit for plans. The hull is wood planked covered with fiberglass. Estimated construction time was 1,200 hours. Remote controlled operational features include search, cabin and mast lighting, rotating dual radars and sound system for motor and horn.
LET'S ROLL
LET'S ROLL! is a special model class within the Northwest R/C Ship Modelers club. Many members have boats using the same hull design and other performance related specifications. The rest is left up to the imagination of the individuals.
I chose the patriotic LET'S ROLL! was designed in memory of the heroes of September 11th, 2001 and special tribute to Todd Beamer who made the phrase Let's Roll! mean something special to all Americans

MUSTANG
The Mustang is a model of a real tugboat that currently is based in Vancouver, Canada and owned by the False Creek Tugboat LTD. The Mustang is a 43' highly maneuverable tug that often can be seen on the inland waters of British Columbia handling gravel barges. My model is a 1/24 scale replica scratch built on a preformed fiberglass hull.
