Begun on October 6, 1968 by the Rev. Troy
D. Perry, a former Pentecostal minister, the UFMCC (now over 300
churches worldwide) has continually offered a home to all who have been
discarded by traditional mainstream churches, especially gay and lesbian
people, bisexuals, and the transgendered. On the forefront of women’s
issues in Christianity, the UFMCC was the first denomination to adopt a
policy of inclusive language and to utilize women in every aspect of
church leadership.
The mission statement of our denomination stresses a
“three-pronged Gospel” of Christian Community, Salvation, and Social
Action.
MCC Rehoboth began in May, 1991 by MCCers from the
Washington, DC, area who recognized a void in their spiritual life at
the beach because there was no fully-accepting church for GLBT people.
Originally a parish extension of MCC Washington, MCC Rehoboth became a
Mission church of the Mid-Atlantic District a few years after its
founding and in February, 2000, was granted status as a Commissioned
Church, granting us the ability to elect officers and purchase property.
We are a growing, living church which believes in God’s
all-inclusive love as expressed through the life, ministry, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are a church dedicated to healing in
every area of our lives, as we together journey toward emotional,
physical, and spiritual wholeness.
