Sylvanus Hill Gold, b. Feb. 27, 1845 in Cleveland County, N.C., d. Dec. 30, 1922, m. 1869 Laura Alice Moore. He was the youngest son of Milton and Martha Fortune Gold. His grandfather was Daniel Gold who migrated from Mecklinburg Co., Va., about 1798 and settled in Rutherford County, N.C. Through Richard Gold he was descended from John Gold the Crusader who lived at Seaborough, Somersetshire, England in 1220. By 1875 he was evidently living in Yancey County, N.C. Later, he moved his family to Washington College, Tenn.
