Welcome to the "The Jernigan Photo Archives". We are looking forward to seeing this part of our family history grow. Thanks to Barbara & Sharon for being our first contributors.

When you submit your information for your picture, it would be appreciated if you can tell us about when it was taken, and try to identify as many in the picture as you can. But if you can't, don't worry about it, maybe someone else can tell us who the unknowns are. Email your information to Marla Boots .

Now come on, dig through those boxes, closets and drawers for those pictures and allow us to list them at this site. There are bigger and better things ahead.

If you see your ancestor on this list and would like a copy of the picture or more info about it, click on the name of the person submitting it and you can email your request to them. Remember, just because these people are willing to share these pictures does not mean that they can do this for free. We don't want to take advantage of people's generosity.  So there may be some cost involved in obtaining a copy.

PHOTO PRESERVATION PROGRAM

One of the projects of the Jernigan Family Association is the centralization, documentation, and preservation and protection of old family photos of Jernigans and Jernigan descendants.

There are multiple purposes for this project. It will create a central location where the old Jernigan family photos can be duplicated, identified, stored and cared for, preserved for the future, and copies can be made available to anyone upon request. The primary reason is to protect against the possibility that some disaster should occur which would destroy the irreplaceable pictures in your individual possession. We would be protecting ourselves, as independent family groups, from permanently losing all of our old family photos to a major disaster, such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes.

An added benefit of this project, is that negatives would be created for each photo, from which any number of duplicates could be made. This would also protect the original from frequent handling. In fact, with the negatives that are created from the duplication project, anyone can request any of the photos, and/or any number of the photos for the cost of reproduction and mailing of the photos. Also, from the negatives, special duplicates can be made, such as enlargements, or even wallet size versions.

Two Jernigan Photo Archives have been established in different parts of the country. This is for the purpose of doubling the protection against the possibility that one of the archives locations befall some kind of disaster. Everyone who has old family photos of Jernigans and Jernigan descendants are encouraged to send duplicate copies (not the originals) to Sharon Tingley in Georgia and to send a second set to Marla Boots in Pennsylvania.

Marla Boots has decided to take charge of this project, so if you possess any old photographs of Jernigan family members, and you would like these images preserved and cataloged for posterity, and have questions on how to go about it, contact her by mail, telephone, or e-mail. To submit your photos, mail the photographic duplicates or duplicate negatives directly to Marla Boots and Sharon Tingley at the above addresses, identifying who each person is in the photo, possibly including birth and death dates and places, approximate date and location that the photo was taken, and any notable details regarding the original taking of the photo, i.e. wedding, anniversary, holiday, vacation, etc.

This is a very exciting and worthwhile project and I hope that everyone will eventually submit their old photos to the Jernigan Family Association Photo Archives.
