James Palmer contributed the following information. James writes that he is not a Jernigan descendant, but he is definitely a member of one of the allied families. He is submitting this information about the Jernigans in his extended family tree in the hopes that it may help someone.
FIRST GENERATION
1. Moses PARMER was born in 1853 in
Barbour Co., AL. He died in 1934 in Barbour Co., AL. Moses was the grandson of
Jacob Parmer, who was a pioneer settler of Barbour Co., AL.
Moses was married to Lydia Ann PARMER on 28 Feb 1877. Lydia Ann PARMER was born in
1852 in Barbour Co., AL. She died in 1935 in Barbour Co., AL. She was the
daughter of Jacob and Adeline Baker Parmer, and the granddaughter of George W. Parmer, who
was the brother of Jacob Parmer, her husband's grandfather. Thus Lydia and her
husband Moses were second cousins. Like his brother Jacob, George W. Parmer was also
a pioneer settler of Barbour Co., AL. Moses PARMER and Lydia Ann PARMER had the
following children:

28 Feb 1980 in Randolph Co., GA. He was buried in Eastview Cemetery, Cuthbert,
Randolph Co., GA. Mancy Palmer is the grandfather of James Palmer, email address Palmeur@aol.com. Older family members had told
Mancy that the Moses Parmer line had originally spelled their name Palmer. But
Mancy's mother, Lydia Ann, whose maiden name was also Parmer, was opposed to any change in
spelling the name. It was only after Lydia died and Mancy left Bakerhill, AL in 1935
that he was able to spell the name as Palmer, which James' research has shown to be the
correct spelling, used by the family in Maryland and Jones Co., GA before they moved to
Barbour Co., AL.

Beale wishes to share with everyone this newspaper clipping of the obituary notice for
Zennie Arkansas "Kansas" Jernigan Culbreth, my ggrandmother. Unfortunately it
has no date or name of the paper, so I don't know the year of her death. Perhaps this will
be of help to someone else.
Deaths and Funerals
Mrs. Zennie A, Culbreth.
EDISON,Ga., Jan. 17.-In the death of Mrs., Zennie Arkansas Culbreth, Randolph County has
lost one of its pioneer citizens and one of its most beloved women.
Eighty-two years ago Mrs. Culbreth was born in that county, near Carnegie, where her
entire life was spent. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Jack Jernigan and Mrs. Katie
Jernigan, and the widow of the late Mr. Jim Culbreth, who preceded her in death five
years.
An illness of only a few days of pneumonia caused Mrs. Culbreth's death Wednesday
afternoon at her home.
Mrs. Culbreth joined the Baptist Church when 16 years of age, and from that time on has
been a loyal Christian worker, and one whose influence will continue to live. She will be
greatly missed in this community.
The deceased was the mother of thirteen (?) children, six of whom are living. They are:
Mrs. C.E. Nichols and Mr. W.T. Culbreth, of Carnegie; Mrs.C.G. Jordan, of Rowena; Mr. C.J.
[Charles Jackson] Culbreth and Mr. S.A. Culbreth of Edison, and Mr. W.E. [William or
"Willie"] Jernigan [her nephew raised by her], of Shellman. Other survivors
include thirty-eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Mr. Jeff
Jernigan, of Laurel Hill, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. T. N. Little, of Edison, and Mrs.
Anne Tabb, of Albany.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Carnegie, where she
was a member, conducted by the Rev. J. C. Grimes, of Shellman, assisted by the Rev. H. G.
Shearouse, pastor of the Edison Methodist Church. The large attendance and numerous floral
offerings attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was in the
Carnegie Cemetery.

Learry L. Warren of Dunn, NC writes: My 3rd Great Grandfather was Bud (Budd) Icard Jernigan and his 3rd wife, Sallie Wright Adams. They are buried in the Jernigan Cemetery near Godwin's Lake, just a few miles North of Dunn, N.C.. This summer, with the Financial assistance of George Julius Jernigan, Sr. of Dunn, my wife Susan 2 hired men and myself cleaned the Jernigan cemetery for the first time in probably 50 years. All stones can be visited now. My 2nd Great Grandfather was William James Jernigan and my G. Grandfather, John B. Richard Jernigan. I will be glad to assist in lookups and/or furnish information that I have assimilated over the years on the Jernigans of our area. Thanks Learry! I know that everyone who visits the cemetery will greatly appreciate the work that has been done there! You can contact Learry by email or call him at: 1-910-891-1317 for info.

Burnadette Jernigan daughter of John E. Jernigan and Lucretia Josephine Wirth Jernigan
writes:
My parents met and married in Pensacola, FL. around 1970. I was born February 15, 1972
followed by
my sister Jill Ellen Jernigan on Dec. 18, 1973. A short while after Jill's birth, my
parents
separated. I was approximately two years old when this happened. My mother then took my
sister
and I to Rogue River , Ore to be near her family.
I have not seen my father since I was two years old, so now I search genealogies in hopes
of
possibly finding him. The last location I knew of him being at was Alabama. I also know
that
he remarried and had another child.
I was hoping that someone might have some information that could possibly help me. If so,
please
send it to me. I would really appreciate it.

DMARKHAM@PHJW.com writes: "I am interested in finding out information about my grandmother (Lula Allen) and my grandfather (James Allen) who lived in Bay City, Texas. I recently went to Texas for a funeral and had an opportunity to meet some cousins who said that Bay City has a lot of Allens, female Allens who married. I was told that as teens, parents told their children to be careful who they dated in Bay City because they could be dating a cousin. I'm just getting started in this journey and am not really sure how to approach this whole search." Editor's note: This researcher came across the Jernigan Homepage in a search for Lula Allen. I am not sure why, but I do know that the Allen and Jernigan families did marry. If anyone can help, please do.

Linda Rogers
Curtis and Judith Jernigan
Oldham are your contacts for the Coffee County, Tennessee Jernigan Cemetery
Association Formation Meeting. Here are the details on the meeting: Descendants of
Alexander C. Jernigan of Johnston County, North Carolina and Coffee County Tennessee are
planning a Cemetery Association Formation Meeting for the first weekend of May, 2000. The
purpose of the get together will include work on repairing/restoring the deteriorated
Jernigan Cemetery across from the original Alexander C. Jernigan home site. Plans for the
meeting include the formation of a Cemetery Association, for those interested, to continue
a degree of maintenance of the cemetery. The meeting will also include an opportunity to
exchange and share information, and to perhaps plan a more extensive Middle Tennessee Area
Jernigan Reunion. The original Alexander C. Jernigan home site is the property and home
site so beautiful described by Varna Thompson Jernigan in her book, "Leaves of the
Jernigan Tree".
The meeting will be held at the Civil War Confederate Cemetery off exit I 24, Gossburg,
Coffee County, Tennessee, Saturday, 9:00 AM.
Please wear working and hiking clothes/shoes and bring garden/repair tools, and cleaning
supplies, if you have them. Mostly, your presence, willingness, labor and Jernigan family
information will be greatly appreciated!
We plan a pot luck picnic on Saturday and Sunday for lunch.
Linda has located the grave sites of Needham Jernigan ( (son of Alexander) and Mary
"Polly" Jernigan (daughter of Lewis Jernigan) . She and her husband have visited
the Alexander C. Jernigan home site and discovered the Jernigan cemetery. They has also
discovered some very interesting history regarding the Jernigan land in this area. The
surrounding area, she reports, is beautiful and full of history. We hope to locate the
nearby grave sites of Alexander C. Jernigan and Elizabeth Farmer Jernigan.
Linda and Judith will supply you with directions, maps, and information regarding the
Jernigan Cemetery and the Civil War Confederate Cemetery, and the meeting. Please contact
them regarding your interest and participation.

Editor's Note
Happy All Saints Day!
As promised, this edition is on time!! And that is appropriate as this is the month of Thanksgiving and I am very thankful that things are starting to slow down some! It has definitely been a rather crazy year!
Please note that there are a number of you who have changed your email addresses without letting us know. (as evidenced by the number of inquiries searching for people above!) Please let me or Sharon Tingley know when you have changed emails. Now there are a number of you who do this and we are quite grateful for your diligence. If you have sent it to me and I lost it in the confusion, please forgive me. If you are reading this homepage and don't get monthly emails letting you know when it has been updated, let me know and I'll add you to the mailing list.
It has been a busy month here at the Boots' household. We were trying to get ready for Halloween without any of our decorations! (All of our seasonal decorations are still back in SC and we hope to get them before Christmas! ) Fortunately our church had an Apple festival and when they were closing down, I stopped by to pick up the girls who were working there. The ladies in charge gave us 4 bags of decorative gourds and about 15 pie pumpkins. With all of that, some ribbon I bought on sale, a bale of straw from Ed's cousin at the farm and 5 mums that were on the Wal-Mart clearance aisle, I was able to decorate our front yard beautifully for less than $15.00! That was fun! And now that Halloween is over, I just did a little removing of ribbon and the front yard was decorated for Thanksgiving.
Here different nights and times are designated for trick-or-treators (wonder which idiot thought that up!) Our designated time was Saturday evening. The whole family got into decorating as Krystal scooped all the goop out of two big pumpkins that we bought for carving. Ed dedicatedly carved one with a mummy design and the other with a ghost flying out of a grave with tombstone and a spooky looking tree. They came out beautifully. As we have three doors on the main level, I wanted to mark the path to the right one. So the girls and I took the pie pumpkins, drew faces on them and I carved out space in the top of them for tea candles. We spread them along the walkway, interspersed with jack o'lantern luminary bags, to light the path of the costumed candy seekers. After all of that creative work, we sat back and waited for the doorbell to ring. Well, it was a good thing that we enjoyed decorating, because nary one ghost, goblin or Indian princess came knocking on our door on either night. The trick, after all, was on us!
Before we meet again, you will all have had a day of stuffing yourselves, spending family time together, some of you will watch football but mainly will just having a great time with your friends and family. Somewhere on that day, you need to pause and think of everything that you have to be thankful for! I know that I am thankful for my husband, Ed, who means more to me than I could do justice with words; our three daughters, Cyndi, Krystal and Kim, because even though they can cause me grief some days, they mainly are a joy to my heart; the rest of our family who have given us support and love, though some of our decisions have made them sad; my incredible friends, too many to name (y'all can include yourselves!) who send me encouraging emails and have helped me in my time of chaos; my two cats who amuse me even when I'm in a bad mood; my dog who protects me even from no-see-ums. Most of all, I thank God for giving me all that I have, even when I don't deserve it. May God bless you in your research and life.
I, being the ever happy bargain hunter, will be spending the day after Thanksgiving shopping and bonding with my daughters! We'll be sitting in a parking lot, munching on Hardee's biscuits and hash rounds waiting for the stores to open at 6:00am! Yes we are nuts, but it is lots of fun. Actually, (now don't hate me) I have a lot of my Christmas shopping done and wrapped (some even delivered much to the surprise of some relatives!). I ran into some really wonderful sales and figured, why not? I will have more time to concentrate on how to decorate the house now. That is, if we get our decorations up here...
I'll be in SC for the holidays, hopefully moving the rest of our stuff up here. But I should be back to post the December edition on time.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And the day after for you bargain hunters!
Until then... Happy Hunting!
Your editor,
Marla Boots
