Michael D. Jarnagan writes, "I just wanted to say thanks for all the help I received in finding the parents and siblings of my gggrandfather William C. Jarnagan. My special thanks and appreciation really goes to Sharon Tingley. She is a real gem. May God bless all the Jarnagans and variants."

Just wanted to warn everyone about this virus... it's a bad one! I know of 3 people who have gotten this within the past 4 or 5 days. This virus is disguised as a file called something like "prettypark.exe" and will be attached to an email from someone you know. If you attempt to open it, it will then in turn be sent out automatically to everyone in your mailbox. IF YOU GET AN EMAIL WITH THIS ATTACHMENT, DELETE AND DO NOT OPEN!!! Lisa Adams received this virus and unknown to her the virus went out to everyone in her address book. This is not something that she did, it was something that was done to her and she and others are suffering from it through no fault of Lisa's! As soon as she discovered what happened, she emailed everyone trying to warn them against opening the earlier email sent through her email box. She has received messages from people telling her never to contact them again. And others that are even worse. She feels very bad and feels that she shouldn't even contact people to try to explain what happened, even though none of this was her fault! So if you receive a file with the name prettypark.exe, please delete it without opening it. If you got zapped by this virus already, please don't get angry with the person whose name appears on the email, they had nothing to do with it. Your best weapon against this one is to have an enti-virus program or be aware, vigilant and quick to hit that delete button.

These Jarnagins/Jernigans are buried in Jack Co. TX. This comes from a book entitled "Complete Cemetery Census, Jack County, Texas 1855-1994" by Avis Radford and Jack Loftin, August 1993. If anyone can identify these folks, Sharon Tingley would appreciate it if they would contact her.

The following is a poem written by Vickie Bates that I thought you might enjoy.
MY ANCESTOR, MY ANCESTOR
Who is my ancestor?
A question we all ask.
It takes years of research,
Not as easy as just reading a book.
My puzzles not finished.
It works heavy on my heart.
Tears of joy flow when I find one
small part.
Some people really dont care to know,
But I pray each day for just
One more part ---
Just enough information to lead me on.
On to the victory ---
Of matching all parts.
My ancestor, my ancestor
How could I not care?
You are a part of me.
And I know you are there
The pieces grow smaller ---
Im almost there.
My ancestor, my ancestor
Ill not stop
Because I care.

Deb writes the following. "I was born in Corpus Christi, Tx in the early '50's. The lady giving birth to me had the last name of JERNIGAN. According to what little information I have, she had been married to LEON JERNIGAN. They had 3 children, all girls, prior to my arrival. He died before I was born.
I was adopted at birth and was raised by a very loving, supportive couple. It is NOT my intent to cause disruption in anyone's life. But I've often wondered if my siblings have wanted to contact me." If anyone can help her, please email her.

Curtis and Judith Jernigan
Oldham are your contacts for the Coffee County, Tennessee Jernigan Cemetery
Association Formation Meeting. Here are the details on the meeting: Descendants of
Alexander C. Jernigan of Johnston County, North Carolina and Coffee County Tennessee are
planning a Cemetery Association Formation Meeting for the first weekend of May, 2000. The
purpose of the get together will include work on repairing/restoring the deteriorated
Jernigan Cemetery across from the original Alexander C. Jernigan home site. Plans for the
meeting include the formation of a Cemetery Association, for those interested, to continue
a degree of maintenance of the cemetery. The meeting will also include an opportunity to
exchange and share information, and to perhaps plan a more extensive Middle Tennessee Area
Jernigan Reunion. The original Alexander C. Jernigan home site is the property and home
site so beautiful described by Varna Thompson Jernigan in her book, "Leaves of the
Jernigan Tree".
The meeting will be held at the Civil War Confederate Cemetery off exit I 24, Gossburg,
Coffee County, Tennessee, Saturday, 9:00 AM.
Please wear working and hiking clothes/shoes and bring garden/repair tools, and cleaning
supplies, if you have them. Mostly, your presence, willingness, labor and Jernigan family
information will be greatly appreciated!
We plan a pot luck picnic on Saturday and Sunday for lunch.
Linda has located the grave sites of Needham Jernigan ( (son of Alexander) and Mary
"Polly" Jernigan (daughter of Lewis Jernigan) . She and her husband have visited
the Alexander C. Jernigan home site and discovered the Jernigan cemetery. They has also
discovered some very interesting history regarding the Jernigan land in this area. The
surrounding area, she reports, is beautiful and full of history. We hope to locate the
nearby grave sites of Alexander C. Jernigan and Elizabeth Farmer Jernigan.
Linda and Judith will supply you with directions, maps, and information regarding the
Jernigan Cemetery and the Civil War Confederate Cemetery, and the meeting. Please contact
them regarding your interest and participation.

Editor's Note
This past month had wonderful highs and terrible lows. But God has carried us through them all. We celebrated three birthdays, as well as Ed and my 19th anniversary! Sadly, my Uncle Jerry passed away of cancer just a few days ago. He is in God's arms now. I am writing most of this to y'all from SC as I came down here for his funeral which was February 29th. After arriving here for Uncle Jerry's funeral, we had two more deaths in the family. They were more distant relatives, but I stayed for their funerals as well. This was late getting up on the web, because I had problems accessing the web from SC for some unknown reason.
I stayed in SC for a week, visiting with family and doing errands that never seem to end while you are in the process of moving in between the funerals. I don't know if we will ever finish moving. We were supposed to be doing the final move this week, but Ed had to work. Now it may be April before it is all said and done, but we are working to move that up if at all possible. The landlord has a new tenant that wants to move in on the first of May! So we need to get things cleared out so that some work can be done before the next people move in.
The snow that we had, finally melted and we were gifted with very beautiful spring weather before I left; which was to continue all this week that week. I figured it would return to winter by the time I headed home again, but it is still nice. I'm hoping that the warm weather is there to stay. The ground is extremely saturated and needs the warm weather to dry things up.
I left Ed at home to tend to the girls. It isn't a very busy week for them, so hopefully it won't be too difficult. Cyndi brought home one of those computerized babies while I was gone. She told her dad that she hoped she didn't get the cranky baby that cries every four hours. Krystal, with whom Cyndi shares a room, promptly informed her that no matter what baby she got, she would be moving out of their room for the weekend. I figured if Cyndi brought home the cranky baby, she would find herself living in a tent in the backyard -that is unless Ed found his earplugs. But she didn't get the cranky one. Quite frankly, I think that all of the computerized babies should be cranky ones. I always thought that the worst case scenario was the best teacher! And every four hours doesn't sound like "worst case scenario" to me!
We have a new site on the web - Finally! I know that I have been promising it forever. Y'all probably quit believing me a long time ago. This old site will have a click through to go to the new site for a few months. But most of you won't need that as I put a link on the emails that I send out each month. If you want to get on that mailing list, email me and I'll be more than happy to add you.
March is the month of leprechauns which is probably why I was born this month. As my grandmother on my father's side was from Ireland, I am quite fond of St. Patrick's Day. My family has long ago become used to the green mashed potatoes, green tea, green applesauce, but they never have been able to stomach the green-tinted main course. (One year it was pork chops.) I have given up on dying the meat in favor of having my family eat it instead of the dog, who must be part Irish as she has no qualms about eating anything green that I give to her!
At the end of this month, I will turn 38. Last year on my birthday, I was a chaperone at Cyndi's prom. This year, I am celebrating by attending Kim's basketball banquet. Of course, I'll never forget the year that Ed treated me to top-row bleacher seats at Darlington Raceway for a Nascar race. (I think that was when I discovered that I have vertigo.) Krystal is the only one who hasn't had something scheduled on my birthday yet, but there is still time...hopefully many, many, many years!
Kim is almost halfway through with fundraising for her mission trip to Alaska. She has to raise another $550.00 before July. The mission team has three fundraisers planned and she hopes that they will be good ones. But she will still have to earn money in addition to those fundraisers. I was planning to have a garage sale this spring, so I think I'll let her work on that and let her have that money.
All three girls brought home good grades on their interim reports. So everyone is a happy camper around our house.
Cyndi just turned 18 on Monday. I asked her if she felt like an adult yet. She said yes. So I told her that was good, she could start paying rent. I'm not sure if she realized that I was teasing her...
You might have noticed that this newsletter is shorter than usual! That is because y'all aren't sending me info to put on it! Sharon Tingley has gone back to work and she and Barbara Fowler have been my mainstays for info! Thanks you two! But Sharon won't have as much time as before to send me stuff for the homepage. I know the rest of you have info. Don't think that no one else is interested, because someone out there could be looking for exactly what you have in your Jernigan files! Send the info in, it doesn't matter how much or how little - all of it is important!
If it isn't already here, surely spring is around the corner now. I went into Wal-Mart in Pa a few days before I left and asked them if they had any bedding plants in yet. They looked at me like I was crazy. Shoot, there are flowers all over the place for sale in SC now. I brought home 2 flats of pansies, Johnny Jump Ups (violas) and snapdragons and they were on sale for $5.00 a flat! I can always cover them when that cold weather comes back for a final fling before spring really hits. Won't my neighbors be shocked when they see my flower boxes overflowing with real flowers! They'll wonder about me even more, I guess!
Well y'all get busy looking through your files for info to send me! I look forward to hearing from you.
Until then... Happy Hunting!
Your editor,
Marla Boots
