Carolyn Lambert writes: "I recently was visiting New Mexico and while there went to the Bayard National Cemetery where one of my McGoldricks (from the James and Lavinia Jarnigan McGoldrick family of Grainger County, TN) is buried. I wanted to take a picture of his grave marker.

Buried close to him was "Johnnie J. Jernigan, Sgt. US Army, World War II, Oct 19, 1925 - Dec 7, 1993." I took a photo of his grave marker.

If you are researching this family, I will be happy to send you the photo for your records."

(Thanks Carolyn!)

Editor's Note

I must apologize for this extremely late homepage.  Our household has been in considerable chaos over the past few weeks.  We have been dealt a number of blows on several fronts, but we are still hanging in there and know that everything will turn out fine eventually.  God is watching over us and our faith in him lets us know that we will survive.  Again, we are fine.  Please don't worry about us.  This is nothing life-threatening, just a lot of stuff happening at once that has us a bit overwhelmed.  However if you would like to say a prayer for our sanity while we are dealing with everything, that would be great!

You might also say a prayer for Tigger, one of our cats.  He has contracted a parasite which destroys his red blood cells.  He quit eating and is down to about 5 pounds.  But we have him on medication now and he is doing better, but his appetite is still almost non-existent.  We can get him to drink a little bit of milk a day.  Solid food is more than he can apparently handle right now.  If anyone has any suggestions, I sure would welcome it.  The parasite is being taken care of, but now we basically have an anorexic cat and we are trying to coax him to eat so he will live.  Our other cat, Sneakers, on the other hand is doing very well and is more than happy to eat any of the delicacies that Tigger refuses.  I think that we are going to have to put Sneakers on a diet!

On to more pleasant conversations.  Thanksgiving!  We will be traveling to SC for the holiday to spend it with our families in a joint Boots/Dubis/Jernigan meal. (Dubis is my maiden name.)  I am looking forward to several days of hanging out with my family and having fun for a while.

It also means the annual tradition of rising early on Friday morning to join my daughters, munching on Hardees breakfast biscuits in the parking lot of Wal-Mart before 6:00am to await the opening of the store to begin our mother/daughter day of Christmas shopping.  I have most of our shopping done and wrapped, however, I can't skip this tradition.  It is way too much fun!

Saturday, we will probably go visit the campus of Furman in SC.  Krystal is looking at Furman as well as Vanderbilt and Belmont colleges.  So even though there won't be anyone there to give an official tour, she would like to visit the campus and area to see what it is like. Kim still would like to go to Messiah, but might entertain the idea of other colleges.

Krystal has been elected president of the Science Club at school and Kim is the president of the Bible Club as well as S.A.D.D.  So we are quite proud of them!

November and December will be very busy around here getting ready for Christmas.  I promised Krystal (who takes great joy in celebrating and decorating for holidays) that we would go all out for Christmas this year.  And the entire clan is coming to our house for Christmas which should be fun!

I need y'all to send in more info for the homepage!  I know everyone is busy this time of year, but take a few minutes to email me anything on the Jernigans or genealogy.  Even if it is a website that you think might interest someone.  You may not think that that little tidbit of info you found at the library is important, but it could mean a breakthrough for someone else!  Send it in!!!!  Cemetery records, wills, deeds, great stories (I'd love to print favorite Christmas tales about your Jernigans in the next issue.), births, deaths, etc.  Also, if you know of any Jernigans serving in the military that might need some encouragement, care packages, penpals, let me know.  I'd be happy to list them!

Those of you on Aol have apparently been having problems getting my mail.  I'm going to try sending it out to smaller amounts of you as I suspect that Aol thinks I am spamming.  I've cleared my emails in the past with them, but they must have thrown out the old list!  I believe that Aol is having some other technical difficulties as some of my Aol websites are not coming up as they should.  When you try to access them, you get a file not found message.  I'm not sure what the problem is there, but am trying to get everything moved over to WorldNet to get around this problem.  Otherwise, I'm not sure what to say.  If you are an Aoler and you don't get the monthly email saying when the homepage is up, please contact me and let me know.  You may just not be on my list, but it will alert me to any problems with the mailing if you are on the list.  Thanks!

Everyone enjoy your Turkey day!  Eat an extra help of sweet potatoes for me!  Remember that we have so much to be Thankful for...our freedom, our people, our faith in God, our children, our friends, our families and the list goes on and on.

Take care and I'll try to have the December homepage out on time.

Until then, ...Happy hunting!

Your editor,
Marla Boots
