Information Exchange

Here is the genealogy of Marla Boots. It is not complete, but most of it is here.  If you are related to this line or have further info on this line, I would love to hear from you. If anyone has any clues as to the parents of David S. Jernigan, I'd love to talk! There are several lines that state no known children when I know that they did have children.  I simply haven't either been able to find out their names haven't had time to get them into the database or in some cases lost the information sent to me in computer crashes.  Any assistance on this would be appreciated if you can fill in any gaps.

Barbara Fowler sent this helpful hint that was published in the "Daily News". I know this shortcut has saved me more time than I can count!

THE ART OF COPY/PASTE

Many people want an easy way to copy material from the Internet to their computer. There are three ways:

EDIT > SELECT ALL then ^C / ^V
or
Highlight / ^C / ^V
or
FILE > SAVE AS

^ (the upper cased 6) is shorthand for your CTRL key. So read the ^C, ^V as CTRL+C or CTRL+V--where the CTRL key is held down while the next key is depressed.

FILE > SAVE AS puts a file in your computer that's a duplicate of the page before you; remember you can also save the photos as well. Very handy!

EDIT > SELECT ALL highlights the entire page, which you can then ^C to make a temporary copy. You want a NEW > FILE open for you to use the ^V for printing that copy in the file.  Then /alt+F, A for the window that lets you name the file you're about to save.

HIGHLIGHT, ^C, ^V starts with you highlighting the material you want to save. Do this by very carefully locating your mouse at the start of the material--so that it changes (in my computer to an "I" beam) . . . now, hold down your SHIFT key, and move your mouse to the end of the material . . . and click at the end. The entire passage should be highlighted.

Alternatively, at the start, depress the left mouse key and sweep it to the end of the material you want . . . which also results in a highlight.

HIGHLIGHTED MATERIAL can be manipulated as well; right-click your mouse and check out those options.

Now that we have plenty more space, I would like to ask all of you to please download your pictures or any articles, obits, etc. about your Jernigan ancestors to share with all of us! This is easy to do, or if you would like to email them to me in attachments, I'll be glad to add them to the site for you.

This site has been relatively inactive for awhile, and I would love to see it expand. If you have never visited, send me an email and I'll provide you with a password to log on.

So share your treasures with us! And please invite any of your Jernigan relatives to visit the site and share in the fun!

OBITUARY
Elsworth Tarver Jernigan was born February 8, 1912, and died October 2, 1915. He had been sick about one year. During this time his parents put forth every effort to save his life. Some of the best medical aid in Clovis was summoned. In fact every physician in Clovis was at different times brought into consultation. He was also taken twice by his parents to leading
specialists in Denver, Colo. But the fight was to no avail. The past few weeks the little fellow commenced to sink rapidly. Hoping against hope, his parents remained day after day and night after night by his side in watchful anxiety. On Saturday morning it was seen that the end was approaching. Kind friends, the faithful physician, and the loved ones watched while the little sufferer was dying. Finally he ceased to breath and angels came and bore the soul of precious Elsworth to the arms of the Savior. Interment took place Sunday afternoon, funeral services being held at the home.

Inquiries

Maryte Hoagland Dyess is seeking information on her ancestor, Sarah Jernigan, Irwin Co, GA.  She writes: I am searching for my great, great grandmother -- Mary Matilda Griffin's mother, Sarah Jernigan who was married to William Asa Griffin in December, 1829 in Irwin County, Georgia. I understand that she died sometimes after June, 1833 after the birth of Mary Matilda Griffin in Alachua County, Florida on June 3, 1833...But I have no idea whether Sarah died during childbirth or not...William Asa Griffin was listed as living alone in the Georgia Census of 1840 and apparently that Mary lived with her paternal grandparents -- Joshua Griffin in Lowndes Co, GA....William Asa Griffin remarried in 1843 to Elizabeth Cason. Last January I finally located the gravesite of Mary Matilda Griffin and her husband, James English Harrison at Fort Call Cemetery in Dukes, Florida, but there appears to be no family members around their gravesites.

Editor's Note

I thank God for placing my family and me in this great country. We are truly blessed. It is unfortunate that a horrible tragedy has to occur to remind us what a great country we live in, what good people are around us, and what a loving and forgiving God we have. I was at work when my husband, Ed called to tell me about the World Trade Towers.  I couldn't believe what I was hearing as the day unfolded. We were sent home from work at 11:00am.  Not much work was being done anyway with all the news flashes coming from co-workers as we all were listening to radios, searching the internet and talking to friends and family members.  The plane that went down in Somerset was what really upset many people at our office.  That is not really far from us here in the Pittsburgh area. It seemed that everyone knew someone in the towers, at the pentagon or at both places. We were all happy to go home to our loved ones.  My loved ones weren't at home when I would have gotten home, so I headed to the grocery store and bank. I also filled my tank up with gas. How do you prepare for a terrorist attack?  I've prepared for hurricanes and snowstorms, so I just did what I would do for one of those kinds of storms. But this disaster was not of mother nature. This disaster was from a source of Evil. How do you fight evil? I found out that love, prayers and compassion go a long way. It was good to finally gather all of my family together that day. Our family went to church where we attended a prayer service.  We prayed for the victims, their families, our country, our leaders, our children, guidance and yes even for our enemies. Funny thing about this attack.  Our enemies thought that we would crumble like the buildings they destroyed. That we would scatter and run and hide. That we would fall apart and not be able to function. That we would curse our God for not protecting us. But they were wrong.  In fact, their attack on us had the opposite effect. Instead of scattering, we have come together in an unbelievable show of compassion, patriotism, love, loyalty and charity. There is no black, white, red, yellow, etc - only red, white and blue Americans. We haven't fallen apart. We are coming together, giving blood, money, food, items, working endlessly to search for survivors and then victims, taking care of the injured, the weary workers, the grieving. We aren't blaming God - we are on bended knee in worship and prayers - believing even more and coming closer to him than ever before. Those terrorists have succeeded in pulling our leaders together as well. Something I was giving up on ever seeing. There are no longer Republicans and Democrats - only American leaders making careful, good decisions for all Americans as to how to handle and defeat this threat. They are doing an excellent job. These terrorist may have broken our buildings and our hearts, but they can never break our spirit! It is said that tragedy will make you stronger. It is certainly true in this case. I'm not sure exactly how the near future will play out. But I'm not worried either. I am encouraged by what I have seen take place in this country over the past three weeks. There are two things I do know for sure. Terrorism will be defeated and no matter what happens in the future, we can handle it. Of that I am sure. God bless us all!
