The Comic Strip

Following the success of their 'Thundercats' and 'Silverhawks' series, Lorimar/Telepictures* released four new animated shows for children in 1987: Karate Kat, Street Frogs, Mini-Monsters and TigerSharks under the heading of 'The Comic Strip'.

The enormous popularity of these characters led to lavishly produced arena shows and promotional tours using larger than life cartoon character costumes.

Contacted by NBC, I was responsible for supervising the design and execution of several of these major characters. Once again my wire-frame technique was employed to draft the character patterns. This technique allowed me to maintain quality control and uniformity over the finished product.

Fabricated in industrial strength L-200 these character masks remain both lightweight and flexible while supplying maximum comfort for the performer. Here are some of my photos:

  * Although not known to me at the time, I was thrilled recently to  find out  this was also a Rankin/Bass production. J

Here's a look as some of those special character cosutme masks I created for these .
