US Army Retired

PVT Roy E. Maynard Jr.
Basic Training
1961
Fort Knox, KY

THE BEGINNING

Our military career began on a cold day in January 1961. Perhaps, the worse winter of this century in Kentucky. Roy got on the Trailways bus at 7'o clock in the morning for the ride to the induction center at Ashland, KY. He had volunteered for the draft along with four of his friends. Of the five who went to the induction center, Roy was the only one to pass both physically and intellectually. He then went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for basic training, alone! We would stay there for two years.
