BOOMER

SCHNAUZER EXTRAORDINAIR

Boomer is a Malamute, he is beautiful and he is intelligent (maybe)! He is also very unique! He loves kids! but then he is a kid! Why a Malamute? Why not? Never mind that he will be as big as a pony! That he will shed unrelentlessly! That he will dig up plants and shrubs! That he will chew and chew! He is also quiet! He likes to hide in the closet under my cloths. He does not bark, only goes wooooooo, wooooo, woooooo, when he wants to go outside. He loves toys, wants to have pig ears available at all times! He will drink from his bowl on the porch and then turn it over and lay in the water! He will also jump in the water garden pond! Algae does not bother him! Boomer does not have an odor! that is definitely a plus! He likes to be brushed!

Boomer is also a food lover! The original arctic owners often abandoned them on islands in the summer to scavenge and hunt when food was scarce. This trait is still in the breed. Malamutes are traditionally world class moochers, and act as if starvation is imminent, this was probably a survival tactic in the frozen north.

Malamutes are always looking for an opportunity to test authority. Boomer is no exception! BUT he is learning who is THE BOSS, and it is not Boomer! Boomer will try to "get around" when disciplined, will apologize when he has done wrong or "kiss up" when he wants something! He loves attention, demands attention, and gets attention! Traditionally Malamutes are rarely super-obedient dogs. They learn fast, but tend to obey only when it suits their interest. They may come when called, but usually only if it is for something they enjoy, as food, or going for a walk.

Why a Malamute? Why not?

UPDATE!

Boomer is now six months old! and guess what? he may
not be a Malamute! He was adopted you know, from the
shelter, so we cannot be sure of his heritage!
However, those ears are still laying down!
Nope, no Malamute ears! and he is just a little
well maybe a lot, hard headed! He will not listen
only when he wants to listen! Is this sounding more
like a Spitz? Maybe a Malaspitz???
