State of West Virginia Killed in battle medal.
Item is as pictured. One Mint condition West Virginia Killed in battle medal named on the rim to Elam K. Bosworth Co. B 10th regiment Infantry volunteers. I have the sevice record from the archives, it is mentioned on the page that is photographed in the auction under Remarks: Killed in action at hatchers run Va, March 31 1865. Bosworth is listed in the records with three variant first name spellings, these are Eleim K. Elam K., and Ellem K., The soldier and sailor website has him recorded as, Ellem K., and variant Elem K., suppose record keeping in the US at this time was equally as horrible as during the Crimean war, the british had the same issues with spelling and roll keeping.
The medal itself is by far the cleanest example I have handled, the Obverse and reverse planchet are immaculate, along with the Mint ribbon, which has oxidized and resulting in fading of the red white and blue colors. The pin assembly is strong.
