CHURCHES
-
Church leaders are
in a unique position to assist victims and abusers. Many victims
are under the assumption that submitting to abuse is part of their marriage
vow. Church leaders can show that God's message is one of gentleness
and never expects anyone to accept domestic violence.
-
RAVE is an initiative
that seeks to bring knowledge and social action together to assist families
of faith impacted by abuse

CIVIC
GROUPS
-
Helping to raise
awareness in your community is critical. Domestic Violence is not
an isolated event. As community members hear more about it, the stigma
will deteriorate.
-
Support area domestic
violence agencies by helping to provide for their practical needs.
|
INDIVIDUALS
-
Educate yourself.
-
Contact domestic
violence shelters in your area and help meet their needs.
-
Model appropriate
interpersonal behaviors. Actions do speak louder than words.
|
SCHOOLS
-
Educate students
about appropriate interpersonal behaviors through existing curriculum .
Rather than add-on programs, use natural opportunities in lessons to promote
important skills.
-
Community service
projects that include support for local shelters are very meaningful.
Because victims often have to flee their homes with nothing but the clothes
on their back, shelters often need basic supplies.
-
Never attempt to
"help" a student by keeping their secret about domestic violence.
Always report what you know to the appropriate professionals.
