The World According To Marney

Other Stuff

Here is my recent ramblings about those alluring "quizzes" that pop up on other sites. I have an uncontrollable urge to answer them all. Let's face it, I'm a freak.

July 1: Summer Fun!
Summer Fun!

1. Lemonade or Ice Cold Beer? Lemonade. I can't stand beer.
2. Swimming pool or beach? I love the smell of chlorine in a swimming pool. I know it's gross.
3. Long weekends here & there, or a 2-week vacation? I like to spread it out. I get restless if I am "relaxing" for too long.
4. Destination: Acapulco or Hawaii? Never been to either. I don't think either of them are on my short list.
5. Destination: Mountains or Beach? I can go either way. If I had to choose, I think I would go with mountains. I don't like it when sand gets into places it doesn't belong.
6. Hotel/motel/B&B or camping? Anywhere there is room service, a concierge, a restaurant or bar on the premises and thermostat control.
7. Carefully planned vacation, or play it by ear? I like the play it by ear method of vacationing. I have always had much more fun winging it.
8. Sneakers or sandals? I don't wear sneakers except for actual exercise. Make 'em sandals.
9. Air-conditioning or fans? A/C makes my sinuses dry out. LIke at home, I'll take a fan.
10. Concerts in the park or baseball games? Concerts, hands down.

Tuesday, April 29, 2003: The *Take Comfort* Edition

Which is more comforting for you...
1. Lying down on the couch, or stretching out on a recliner? Lying down
2. Going barefoot or wearing soft slippers? Barefoot
3. Eating ice cream, or pizza? Ice Cream!!!
4. Watching on TV...a classic movie or a reality show? Movies, movies and more movies
5. Wearing: blue jeans or sweat pants? Jeans
6. A long, soothing bubble bath or a quick, invigorating shower? Bubble Bath
7. Furniture: leather, or something more on the fuzzy side? Fuzzy
8. Soft, classical music, or upbeat rock & roll? This is tough. I love them both.
9. Darkness or light? Being a mole person, I prefer darkness.
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You get married, or otherwise begin cohabitating with a significant other. S/he moves into your place, but brings with them the UGLIEST chair you have ever seen! You really don't want this thing in your home, but SO says it is the most comfy chair s/he has ever sat in, and no way will they part with it. Do you: grin and bear it, or scheme to get rid of the montrosity somehow? I would not complain. I am a much more go-with-the-flow kind-a girl.

(I'm only a little late.)

1. Who is your favorite celebrity? John Cusack
2. Who is your least favorite? I'm sad to say, there are many that are in the running for this position. I would have to say Nathan Lane for many personal reasons.
3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life? Yes, many. I have worked with Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, David Alan Grier, Mark Linn-Baker, Ernie Sabella, John Stamos, Matthew Broderick, Sarah Jessica Parker, Brent Spiner, William Duell, and really the list goes on and on. I won't even begin to tell you about the celebrities that I have merely run into on the streets or at parties. That list is WAY too long.
4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not? No, not really. I much prefer a simpler lifestyle than fame allows. I think I am plenty famous right now.
5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why? Probably Michelle Pfeiffer. She seems to be able to balance a successful career with a rather private life. Not to mention, she's talented, attractive and intelligent. Not a bad combo.

5. What are five promises you have kept to yourself? I keep all of my promises to myself, well at least the important ones. If you can't keep the promises you make to yourself, how can you be expected to keep any others?

Tuesday, January 21, 2002: Potpourri

1. Super Bowl or World Series? Neither. The commercials are better for the Super Bowl.

10. Your kitchen: well-equipped or bare bones? For the size it is, I have a lot. Of course, that would be bare bones for most people.

1. "Time" or "Newsweek"? I would probably go with Time. I'm really not big on either of them.
2. "Wall Street Journal" or "National Enquirer"? As much as I hate to admit it, Wall Street Journal. Please don't let that one get out.
3. "Sports Illustrated" or "Cook's Illustrated"? Cook's Illustrated. If my kitchen was bigger, I would actually be in there much more.

6. "People" or "Entertainment Weekly"? EW. I actually do read that one pretty regularly.
7. "National Geographic" or "Readers Digest"? I really don't agree with much that Reader's Digest churns out so National Geographic would be a much better choice.

5. Have you ever volunteered in an election? What was the result? Not really. I am not much for the political arena. There are people that aspire to that, I am not one of them.

1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith? Yes and No. I was babtized as an Episcopalian. My parents always encouraged both my sister and me to go to church with our friends. So I spent a lot of time in a Lutheran Church with my best friend Judy. Dad also tried new things likeEckankar.
2. Do you still practice that faith? Why or why not? No. I am an athiest. After many years of learning about different beliefs and faiths, I hold closest to the ideas of Existentialism, where we all have the responsibility as well as the freedom to make the world a better place without the help of a higher being.
3. What do you think happens after death? Worms eat us.
4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just observing)? I have to admit that I don't particularly like organized religion as a whole. I do partake in many different observances. Mastly, they are for the sake of my family and friends. I don't think I have a favorite. I think they all have a ritualistic beauty that comes from tradition and connction beteen people. That is one of the only things that I like about religious rituals.
5. Do you believe people are basically good? I think people have the ability to be good or evil. We all make decisions every day as to how the world will be. For the most part, I think people are good. I think we can all be easily swayed depending on circumstances but as a species, we are good.

Friday, October 18, 2002

1. How many TVs do you have in your home? Only one will fit in my studio.
2. On average, how much TV do you watch in a week? More than I should. Every week is different. I tend to watch the news in the morning as I get ready for work. A lot of time it will just be background noise.
3. Do you feel that television is bad for young children? I think TV is a tool. It should not be used to babysit a child but something that can teach a child many things, under the supervision of the parents.
4. What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you're heartbroken? Nothing is going to bring me to tears if I don't see it. I do enjoy watching Trading Spaces, Saturday Night Live (for my Jimmy Fallon addiction), and The West Wing.
5. If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like? I would try to weed out the strictly fomulaic shows. Not everything should be on TV.

3. If you could only choose 3 books to read ever again, what would they be? This one is hard since I love so many books. The Great Gatsby, Jude the Obscure and probably James Joyce's Ulysses. (If I have nothing else to read, I might as well figure that one out.)
4. If you could only choose 4 things to eat or drink ever again, what would they be? Chocolate, Peanutbutter, Fruit and Veggies.
5. If you could only choose 5 people to ever be/talk/associate/whatever with ever again, who would they be? My five favorite schizophrenic personalities living in my brain.
