New Year's Resolutions 2004

This year, I decided to be a little more specific in my goals for the new year. If you want to see how I did for 2003, click here.

Crochet

I want to learn how to make a granny square. I know it sounds corny, but it's something that I rally want to learn. I have tried learning through books, but I don't think I have the basics of crocheting down quite yet, so it gets very messy. I think I need to have someone show me first.

Writing

I would like to finish the monster I started and clearly did not finish in November. I don't know if it has much there, but I would like to get that writing thing going again. I know I sound like a broken record.

Foreign Language

This one is probably rathe unlikely, but is in my list of things to do before I turn 40. I would like to be fluent in a foreign language: speaking, writing, reading. I am not picky as to the language. French and Japanese are likely, but I am not ruling any other out.

Furniture

I need to get adult furniture for my apartment. I turned 30 in 2003 and I am still using milk crates as book cases. I have started to do something about my apartment recently by getting some artwork to replace my collegiate decor.

Web Design

As you know, I have been toying with HTML code for a while now. For the most part, I have really taught myself with the help of a few books and websites. I would like to get a little more fluent in web design by maybe taking a class in some of the more complicated codes, like Java, Javascript, Flash, etc.

New Year's Resolutions 2003

So, this is what I lsted as things I wanted to do, continue to do or accomplish in 2003. Let's see how well I did:

Employment

I would like to get a new job. I have been actively trying to do that for the past 6 months, to no avail. Maybe 2003 will be a better job market (7.7% unemployment rate in Manhattan as of October 2002.)

Completed October 2003!

Health

I will keep up my vegetarianism. I know this one sounds kind of funny as a resolution. I have a habit of slacking off on my dietary habits and not getting enough nutrients due to eating things that are not so healthy. I am going to try harder to make good dietary choices on a daily basis.

Check - Still Veggie with no major problems.

Creativity

I will continue to grow as a knitter. December marks the end of my first year of knitting. I have done so much in learning this skill in this past year that sometimes I wonder if I am going to burn myself out. My goal is to learn more techniques, get further into more complicated designs in both color and texture, and not limit myself to any pattern, fiber, design, technique. I would like to have each project have at least one element that I have not yet tried.

Check - I have really delved into new patterns, fibers, techniques and so on.

Creativity again

I will write more. As I have posted, I made an attempt at writing a novel during the month of November. I didn't achieve my goal but I made a good start. I would really like to do more writing, maybe not on such a grand scale but at least more consistantly.

Well, Kind of. Not as much as I should.

Social Life

I will keep up with my various hobbies/clubs. In 2002, I joined the New York Stitch 'n Bitch in January. I also started a Book Club in May. They have been a great way for me to connect with people that have the same interests that I have. I have met such wonderful people because of these groups. I am thrilled that I can be a part of these groups. I bet there are many more out there that may be just as good and beneficial to my personal well-being as well as my social life.

Book Club - Yes, Stitch 'n Bitch - I had to give up for the most part for my theatre gig on Tuesday nights.

Emotional Well-Being

I will keep in better touch with my family and friends. There are a lot of people in my life that I would really like to stay close with even if life gets in the way. I have managed to use my blog to get word about my well-being out to anyone that would like to read. But I find I have a hard time making time to pick up the phone or drop a line to the people that mean so much to me. I may get back into writing through snail-mail. As a friend pointed out to me, there are so few people that still use the snail-mail to correspond that it means so much more when that letter or card comes along. Watch your mailboxes!

I think I did okay in this one. Not spectacular, but okay.
