Sam Spade's Basic Tools are located immediately to the right of the entry box.  A brief description of each follows.  Click on the enlarged Icons for detailed information about each tool.:


    Ping sends a packet of information to a given IP address or Domain name. It verifies that the IP address or domain in the box exists, is operational, and is able to take commands.

     DNS is Domain Name Server it will return the IP address of a named server or the domain name of an IP address (rDNS)

     Whois - gives the InterNIC registration data for a given domain, i.e., who owns that domain.

     IP Block - Gives the owner of that block of IP numbers. 

     Dig - Advanced DNS tool

     Traceroute - shows the internet routing path between your IP address and the IP address in question

     Finger - asks the server about a user in question. MOST servers will not respond to fingers.

    Verify - asks the mail server to validate an e-mail address.  MOST servers will not verify.

     Local Time - Gives the local time on the server being checked.

     View raw website - shows the source code from a website.

     Keepalive - keeps your connection to your ISP active by preventing inactivity time outs.  IT is HIGHLY frowned upon by AT&T and most ISPs

     RBL - checks to see if an IP address is listed on the current RBL or in the ORBS database.

     Abuse - checks for the listed abuse address for that domain name @ abuse.net
